Welcome to everyone in Primary 1 and to all our new and existing families.\u00a0\u00a0What a busy session we have had so far – learning and sharing with each other at our Primary 1 Curriculum event, our Open Afternoon and Parent C<\/span>onsultations.\u00a0\u00a0Thank you to all who managed to attend any of these events.\u00a0\u00a0It is always good to meet and share information on the children and their learning journey.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are working hard in literacy and are doing a great job of learning sounds. We have learned our first few sounds a, t, s, i, p, n and have been using this knowledge to blend and to read words.\u00a0\u00a0We will continue to learn new sounds so we can build new words every week.\u00a0\u00a0Common words are words we learn every wee<\/span>k and can be tricky.\u00a0\u00a0Please use the sound cards and the common word cards to practise at home.\u00a0\u00a0These are yours to keep, cut out and use as you wish.\u00a0\u00a0We have started our picture reading books and are enjoying taking these home to discuss with our adults.\u00a0\u00a0Please take the time to discuss the pictures and build the story using the pictures and the child’s vocabulary.\u00a0\u00a0We look forward to progressing with our reading throughout the term as we bring together all of our learning to help us.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Numeracy<\/strong><\/p>\n

In numeracy, we have been learning to count and form our numbers to 10 correctly.\u00a0\u00a0We have been learning numbers before, after and in between, it’s tricky so we will keep practising \u2013 keep challenging us at home by asking us questions!\u00a0\u00a0We will be moving on with estimating and rounding then addition.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In class we have lots of different activities that help us to learn and we enjoy the challenge of completing target tasks independently.\u00a0\u00a0Please help us at home by working on forming numbers to 10. \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Learning Across the Curriculum<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr Connor has been teaching us science. We have been doing lots of fun activities \u2013 learning songs about the bones in our body and using our five senses in different activities \u2013 we may have done enough to earn a badge? \u00a0\u00a0Watch this space….<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In French, Mrs White has been teaching us greetings and numbers. \u00a0We have worked on hello, goodbye and we are learning our numbers to 10. \u00a0We love this as we usually get to sing and dance while we are learning \u2013 what fun!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have been learning about our emotions\u00a0during our Health and Wellbeing lessons. \u00a0We have worked on Emotions Works where we have been\u00a0spending time exploring\u00a0emotions. \u00a0We have been\u00a0naming\u00a0emotions, understanding behaviours,\u00a0noticing\u00a0body sensations,\u00a0understanding\u00a0triggers\u00a0for the emotion and\u00a0regulation strategies\u00a0to help cope with the emotion.\u00a0\u00a0The discussion was\u00a0fantastic\u00a0and the children were\u00a0very good\u00a0at sharing ways to manage emotions. \u00a0<\/span> We also spent time drawing around our classmates and creating a healthy person – discussing then drawing all of the ways we can be healthy.<\/span><\/p>\n

We will soon be busy rehearsing for our Christmas Shows.\u00a0\u00a0Time flies when we\u00a0are having\u00a0fun!\u00a0\u00a0We look forward to entertaining everyone in December.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Look out for more information\u00a0nearer\u00a0the time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
