Can you believe it? Summer is over and school is about to commence. While we were all taking a well-deserved break, events took place across the Catholic world.

Celebrating Our Mother

Starting from the most recent, yesterday we celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Blessed Lady. On this day we remember how Mary, our mother, was assumed into Heaven. This day was not only a Holyday of Obligation but also it is the principal feast of the Diocese of Motherwell as she is the Patroness.

This Feast day was celebrated joyously by the Syro Malabar Community in Hamilton on Sunday. The ten-day Novena ended on the 12th of August with wonderful colours and many priests! The community was also very lucky to have Bishop Toal join them for the faith procession, which was conducted on the streets.

The Pope Joins Celebrations

Further away from home, in Ireland, this year will take place The World Meeting of Families from the 21st of August to the 26th. It is a 5-day event and the organisers promise that it will be:

“a joyful and enriching occasion for adults, young people and children. During these five days, there will be time to meet and share, pray and reflect, grow in faith and love, celebrate, as well as gather strength to continue the journey of life.”

On the very last day, Pope Francis will attend the Nock Shrine and offer Holy Mass in the Phoenix Park. It is expected for thousands to attend and anyone and everyone is invited to the event.

Last but not least, on the 28th of June, Shalom Media Summit 2018 took place in Chicago. The event was designed for the youth of The Church from all over the world and its main aim was to teach do evangelisation through all forms of media. There were inspirational speakers who really connected with the participants and since I was able to attend this gathering, I can affirm that not even one second of it was boring.

So with that, I pray for all those starting school today, that they have a wonderful year ahead of them!
