On Sunday the fourth of May,  2018, The Oscars took place, drawing in hundreds of members of the public to watch. The Oscars is one of the biggest American award ceremonies used to commemorate the best films and actors of that year, and the best this year are:

For best picture, the winner was The Shape Of Water, directed by Guillermo Del Toro, who also won best director. The Shape Of Water is about a mute woman named Eliza, who discovers a scaled water creature at work, and develops a bond with it.

The best actress of 2018 was awarded to Frances McDormand, who played the lead role  in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. When the murder of her daughter goes without a lead for months, She takes matters into her own hands by painting three billboards with controversial messages.

Finally, the best actor of 2018 was given to Gary Oldman, who starred as Winston Churchill in The Darkest Hour. This film is set during World War Two, and features his struggle to protect Britain.
