In the early hours of this morning a Serbian national hurled a grenade at the US embassy in Montenegro; the only deceased in the incident was the man himself.

In Podgorica – the capital of Montenegro – a man assaulted the US embassy by throwing a grenade into the compound before taking his own life. Locals reported two large explosions around midnight.
The man in question was identified as a Serbian, known as Dalibor Jaukovic; an ex-armed forces soldier. The transgressor had no former criminal record, the police have formally stated that this was not an act of terrorism.

Both the FBI and the Montenegrin police are doing further background checks on the man in question, so far revealing that he has openly opposed NATO. The authorities continue to investigate other probable motives. It is also still to be confirmed that he acted alone.

Security in embassies elsewhere in Montenegro have been drastically increased.

A friend of the assailant’s family has stated that Jaukovic had been ‘a good patriot’ and cannot convey what led him to commit this treacherous crime. The embassy itself suffered no damage, neither did anyone else.
