Celtic lifted the Betfred cup as they beat Motherwell 2-0 to get their fourth trophy in a row.

The game got off to a fast start when  a couple of solid tackles were attempted by both sides. Louis Moult started the game with the ball, going on a threatening run, until he was tripped up by Dedrick Boyata however Craig Thompson- the referee for the match- waved to get on with proceedings. Lustig  and Armstrong both managed to get shots away inside the Motherwell penalty area. Three minutes later  Moussa Dembele was found to belimping after a heavy challenge was put in on the Celtic front man. Celtic had  most of the possession but on the counter attack, Louis Moult the Motherwell vocal point managed a 25 yard shot which for a while looked like it was going in but Craig Gordon denied it with his right hand. Celtic after a quick start were then found on the back foot for the next five minutes Motherwell delivering a number of challenging crosses  into the box only lacking clear cut chances. The half time whistle blew with nothing to separate the two sides.

The teams came out for the second half. Celtic started the half off with a goal from James Forrest who curled the ball into the far corner.  On the 53rd minute Craig Gordon pulled off another save from a Louis Moult header which was hit with the force of a bullet. The game had opened up with end to end action. In the 58th minute Celtic won a penalty which seemed to be very harsh. The Motherwell player Cedric Kipre was sent off which was seen as a poor decision from the referee by a number of commentators and the like. From the penalty Moussa Dembele demandingly stepped up and fired a solid strike  straight down the middle of the goal, the goalkeeper diving the wrong way. Motherwell started to get frustrated, you could tell by looking at the players emotions. Leigh Griffths had a free kick saved. The Steelmen still had some life left in them as they put a free kick into the box with Louis Moult getting his head to it but there wasn’t enough power on it to trouble Gordon. Leigh Griffths scared the Motherwell players with a shot hitting the woodwork. Patrick Roberts tried his luck as he pounced passed one player and tried his luck for the top corner but was inches away. The whistle was blown for full time  and Celtic players and fans were celebrating following their cup success .

Overall for Celtic it was really positive getting their first trophy of the season and playing the really well. Motherwell did play well but not good enough to match Celtic.
