This week’s club of the week is vinyl club. This new club, started by Mr. Hamilton from the Science department, allows pupils from S1 to S6 share their love for music, while being given a chance to discover new artists or albums to add to their evolving playlists.

Last meeting, we were brought back in time with the nostalgic self-titled first album by the Stone Roses. The band which stood up against authority in the 1980’s, during a time of real divide in Britain, brought a sense of togetherness; in turn, creating an aura to their music which still exists today. In addition, pupils have also been given the chance to listen to iconic bands such as The Beatles.

This club runs all of lunch time one Friday a month, but due to its popularity with the pupils, it has been asked to be run every fortnight. Pupils are given a full insight into the inspiration behind the album they are listening to, in order for them have the most enjoyable listening experience possible, while they share their opinions on the given record. In addition, students recommend the album that they want to share with their peers at the next club meeting, truly giving the pupils a voice. Some of the suggestions include the Clash, Nirvana and Oasis.

Although this club only runs once a month at this time, pupils are also encouraged to bring in a vinyl of their choice, as Mr Hamilton’s turntable is available any lunchtime for pupil’s personal use. This welcoming club is extremely enjoyed by the pupils who attend, as it has a hospitable and relaxed environment. For this reason, I would highly recommend this club to any pupil who has any interest in music, or even the mindset to give something new a chance. You won’t be disappointed!

The next meeting of the club will be announced soon – check our twitter for updates!
