James Callander | S1

Head for the hills! A review of the new Mazerunner film is chasing you.

The second installment in the five part series, adapted using the books by James Dashner,  had me on the edge of my seat from the sheer amount of twists and terrifying scenes.

WARNING SPOILER ALERT

The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials is an exciting film with two hours of thrilling twists and turns. The main twist was shocking, and left me completely gob-smacked: our heroes are still under the control of W.C.K.D and that there are multiple mazes.

If you have read the books, then the film does not disappoint. However, it was not what I imagined. I was expecting  it was going to be a series of challenges out in the Scorch, but turned out more like a chase movie.

The ending twist was shocking because we all hope that they are safe!  Then,  there is a terrible betrayal among the group which leads to a unexpected and explosive ending, paving the way for the next movie. The cliff-hanger at the end was enraging, because the film could have had less running about frantically, and more time to put in actual story development. The film left me wanting more; it relied to much on special effects than storyline.

The film was largely a great piece of popcorn watching ,but could have had more story than running, along with greater developed characters.

I would rate ‘The Scorch Trials’ 8/10
