Students are complaining that night out is leading to empty pockets.

The Odeon cinema in East Kilbride shopping centre is being accused of charging too much for drinks, snacks and bags of sweets.

For example, a drink and popcorn combo (medium size) is £7.50 and a small bag of sweets are £3.40.

Pupils are complaining that this costs a lot of money, especially if you are going to the cinema with your family, and only one of you is paying. The cinema gets all of its drinks and snacks for free to advertise the sweets and drinks, so they get full profit for what you spend. Furthermore, students are enraged that going to the local Sainsbury’s to buy snacks for a cheaper price may lead to them being forced out of the cinema or having these products confiscated.

Odeon’s ticket prices in East Kilbride have recently reduced to roughly £5 each. However, 15-20 minutes of cheesy adverts are still a feature; with people trying to brain wash you into buying their products.

As the world moves further to online services like Netflix, is there really a place for such an expensive night out?
