They are posted here weekly. Please contact the office if you require any additional jotters to complete homework tasks.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Kelly very kindly gave us some money to buy some new things for our classroom.\u00a0 After chatting with Miss Cassidy, the children decided that they would like to spend the money on a house corner.\u00a0 Mr Connor also donated a beautiful kitchen to us.\u00a0 The children absolutely love playing in their house corner and are really good at keeping it tidy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Beat the Street\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Beat the Street has started and runs until 28<sup>th<\/sup> April.\u00a0 Your child has their map and fob home with them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beatthestreet.me\/\">https:\/\/www.beatthestreet.me\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Good luck everyone.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-27\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/public\/neilslandpr7\/uploads\/sites\/13924\/2021\/02\/19155018\/Beat-the-Street-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"125\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Health and Wellbeing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mrs Swinburne has posted lots of fantastic resources in her Health and Wellbeing classroom including yoga, meditation and relaxation activities.\u00a0 These can be accessed at any time.\u00a0 This is also where you will find more information about Neilsland CHARMS.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Google Classroom<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our Google Classrooms are an important part of our online learning.\u00a0 Your child has access to the P1\/2 classroom and also Mrs Swinburne\u2019s P1\/2 Health and Wellbeing Classroom.<\/p>\n<p>Our Google Classrooms contains lots of resources to support your child in their learning.\u00a0\u00a0 All homework tasks are also posted here on a Monday for the week.\u00a0\u00a0 Most activities should be completed in a numeracy or lined jotter but there will be occasions when worksheets will be sent home.\u00a0 Photographs can be taken of homework tasks and uploaded to Google Classroom.\u00a0 I can then comment on your child\u2019s work and return your child\u2019s work with a comment to you.\u00a0 Worksheets should not be returned to school.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Online Resources<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Teach your monster to read<\/u> \u2013 a fabulous resource for consolidating phonics<\/p>\n<p><u>Get Epic<\/u> \u2013 a large variety of online books including \u2018read to me\u2019 books<\/p>\n<p><u>Sumdog<\/u> \u2013 online numeracy learning<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is easier if you try to access these websites via your browser (opening a webpage) rather than via an app.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teach Your Monster to Read <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please log in using \u00a0<u>http:\/\/www.teachyourmonstertoread.com\/u\/4688422<\/u><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You must use this link to access your account. You can help your child by continuing to practise recognising, identifying, reading and writing all of the single phonemes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>P1 children are learning to put phonemes together to build, read and write simple CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words such as him, pet, can, mug, pot etc. and writing simple sentences.<\/p>\n<p>Primary 2 are continuing to learn more joined phonemes.\u00a0\u00a0 You can help your child by continuing to practise recognising, identifying, reading, writing and building words using all of the joined phonemes which have been taught so far.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In school we use Active Literacy and the SMBBRW strategy for word building.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Say it <\/strong>(say the word)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Make it<\/strong> (with phoneme cards)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Break it<\/strong> break the word up by separating)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blend it<\/strong> (starting at the<\/p>\n<p>beginning, blend the word together)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read <\/strong>(read the word)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Write it <\/strong>(write the word 2 times)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/public\/neilslandpr7\/uploads\/sites\/13924\/2021\/02\/19155201\/say..make_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"204\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The children know this as a hand.\u00a0 Please encourage your child to use this strategy when building words at home too.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Numeracy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your child has been continuing to learn about forward number sequences.\u00a0 We have been practising choosing numbers and counting on from that number.\u00a0 The children are getting really good at this \u2013 ask your child to show you how well they are doing.<\/p>\n<p>Since coming back to school we have been learning about money, identifying coins, ordering coins in value from smallest to biggest and biggest to smallest.\u00a0 We have been using our shop to pay for items using the correct coins.\u00a0 We will still be consolidating our learning of money but our focus will move on to\u00a0 subtraction.\u00a0 We will be learning about backward number sequences and counting back.<\/p>\n<p>We have been learning to take away 1, 2, all and none.\u00a0 We have also been learning to count back using a numberline and our finger frog.<\/p>\n<p>You can help your child by encouraging them to count back from specific numbers and using objects in the house to create subtraction sums.<\/p>\n<p>Miss Ross will be working with us as part of her course in childcare.\u00a0 She started on the 8<sup>th<\/sup> March and will be with us from Monday \u2013 Thursday for 8 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>On 19 April Miss Paterson who is a teaching student will be with us for 8 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>We are really excited to have Miss Ross and Miss Paterson join our class.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-29\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/public\/neilslandpr7\/uploads\/sites\/13924\/2021\/02\/19155443\/Easter.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"210\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have a wonderful Easter!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to the P1\/2 blog.
