Limericks

P5/6 have been writing hilarious limericks this morning as part of their Genius Hour projects. Using their Genius Hour topic theme, the pupils formed small discussion groups and helped each other think up rhyming words or short stories which could be incorporated into a poem. As a result we have poems about everything from hoovers and space travel to recorders squished under bums.

Each student has uploaded their limerick to their personal blog (all the links are to the left of this blog), so pop over and leave them a comment.

This week our task is to prepare our posters to make a pitch of what we are learning about to our whole class. We have some time in class to complete this as well as working on it at home.

Our pitch poster needs to include:

  1. The question we are asking i.e How do you play ‘hot cross buns’ on the recorder?
  2. How we are going to learn. (books, internet research etc)
  3. The web address of our blog so that we can share our learning every step of the way.
  4. Images and drawings to make our work eye catching and draw attention to our information.

In addition to working on our pitch poster this week (for Monday 28th May) we will update our blogs at least twice with information about our studies and continue to challenge ourselves by learning at least 2 things which we can add to our study.

Genius Hour

Welcome to the home of the P5/6 Genius Project!

This term P5/6 and Mrs Andrews have chosen their own personal projects to investigate and share with their class. Here you can find links to every pupils blog and keep up to date with our exciting progress.

The Genius Hour project comes from the 20% project developed by Apple, where founder Steve Jobs believed that workers would be more passionate about their work if they had chosen what to study. So will our pupils become more passionate and driven in their learning if they have chosen their own field of interest.

Pupils have all been asked to choose a field of study and develop a question e.g Which is better the Xbox or the PlayStation?

Pupils then have to present their field of study to the class with ‘The Pitch’ a short poster presentation outlining what they will be learning and how.

Throughout the study the class will keep a blog which shares their learning step by step, both successes and failures, as well as setting themselves targets for learning.

At the end of the project the pupils are invited to share their learning. This can be done any way the pupils see fit, by song, dance, video blog or a talk to the class.
