{"id":263,"date":"2012-09-01T12:19:48","date_gmt":"2012-09-01T11:19:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.caseyfamily.co.uk\/?page_id=263"},"modified":"2021-11-15T16:56:51","modified_gmt":"2021-11-15T16:56:51","slug":"modern-languages","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sl\/lanarkbackup\/ourschool\/languages-and-religious-and-moral-education\/modern-languages\/","title":{"rendered":"Modern Languages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Supporting Learning at Home<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SENIOR PHASE (S4-S6)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our N4\/5, German and French classes can be found on Google Classroom.\u00a0 All pupils have access and should check the steam regularly for classwork.\u00a0 Work will be posted every week for completion by students.\u00a0 This work will take approximately the same time to read and complete as regular work completed in classes.\u00a0\u00a0 Students are strongly encouraged to keep up with the work, meet deadlines which will be set and to seek clarification using the Stream option.\u00a0 \u00a0Resources and optional work will also be added to support learning.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Where students intend to continue with the subject into next session, work will be set at the next level of learning \u2013 Higher students can start their AH coursework, National 5 students can start the Higher Course.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Google Classroom codes<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New Higher French \u2013 kya2vnr<\/li>\n<li>New Advanced Higher French \u2013 vuypodt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>BGE (S1-S3)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All BGE pupils have been added to Google Classroom and can access coursework, assignments and exercises virtually.\u00a0 Pupils will be set work corresponding to three periods of teaching per week.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Pupils are strongly encouraged to complete all the tasks and assignments and return their work electronically and on time.\u00a0 Any questions can be asked via the Stream function on Google Classroom.\u00a0 S3 students who have opted for Modern Languages next session will be expected to start the National 4 and 5 courses and work will be posted to support this.<\/p>\n<p>Google Classroom codes<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>S1 French \u2013 b5sahr4<\/li>\n<li>S2 French \u2013 c5gyc3j<\/li>\n<li>S3 French \u2013 w4mlm3k<\/li>\n<li>S2\/3 German \u2013 6g3yk6y<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Modern Languages at LGS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the French &amp; German courses at all levels is to provide learners with the opportunity to develop the skills of reading, listening, talking, and writing, in order to understand and use French \/ German in a range of everyday contexts.<\/p>\n<p>Pupils will be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enhance their communication skills through the consistent development of the skills of listening, talking, reading and writing.<\/li>\n<li>Develop a knowledge of the structure of the foreign language and how it relates to their own first language.<\/li>\n<li>Raise their awareness of other cultures and international citizenship.<\/li>\n<li>Develop generic skills such as working with others, research skills, skills in presenting information and IT skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The courses also contribute towards the development of literacy skills by providing learners with opportunities to read, listen, talk and write in a modern language, and to reflect on how this relates to English.<\/p>\n<p>Did you know?<\/p>\n<p>British nationals are seriously under-represented in jobs in European institutions, largely because of poor foreign language skills.
