Week 4 at Heathery Knowe Primary School and Nursery

Primary 1 pupils are now confident in school routines and are making good progress in learning.  If you have any concerns about your child’s progress in learning or how well they have settled into the new school year, please get in touch with the school and we can arrange a telephone meeting to  discuss this further.

Heathery Knowe PTC

Heathery Knowe has an active Parent Teacher Council. Members of the PTC support the school by consulting on school improvement, supporting school events and fundraising. The PTC normally meet in school each month however all meetings will be digital in the short term.  If any parent is interested in participating in PTC meetings and events to support the school or would like to learn more about it please get in touch  with Mrs Davidson (PTC Secretary) or Mrs Archbold (PTC Chairperson) by emailing  hkptc.secretary@gmail.com
or sending a message through the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/HKSPTC

Parent Consultations

The school normally schedules parent consultation meetings to take place at the end of September. This year teachers will not be able to meet parents in person to discuss their child’s progress because of Covid restrictions. We are working in partnership with the Calderglen learning community schools to agree the best method of sharing information with parents whilst ensuring the risk of Coronavirus transmission remains as low as possible.

If you have any concerns about your child’s progress and feel you need to speak with a member of teaching staff sooner, please contact headteacher@heatheryknowe-pri.s-lanark.sch.uk and it will be shared with the class teacher for a response.

ParentPay

Thank you to parents for your patience while we finalised the use of ParentPay. It is now fully operational within the school and the office is cash free. If you have any difficulties or need to merge sibling accounts, please contact Mrs Rankin in the office who will be happy to help.

21st Century Families: Play Award

Last year we participated in the 21st Century Families Play Award scheme with Primary 3 pupils. Each child participated in a wide range of play opportunities at home and in school. The evidence was collected in a booklet with a planned award ceremony at the end of the year. Unfortunately the award ceremony could not take place but we were delighted to receive the  medals in school and will arrange a celebration in school for children collecting the award.

This year this will be extended to Primary 1-3. The scheme intends to encourage children to play more traditionally with one another and to reduce the time children engage with digital devices.

Primary 1 pupils will have an opportunity to complete a play grid
Primary 2 pupils will have an opportunity to complete a play booklet
Primary 3 pupils will have an opportunity to complete the play award

The project is funded by National Lottery funding this year so there is no charge to the school or parents.

COVID 19

Mrs French chairs a meeting every two weeks to discuss the procedures and routines in place to reduce the risk of Coronavirus transmission in school and in our school community. It is attended by a representative of nursery, support staff, teaching staff, facilities staff and the school leadership team. We are keen that both parent and pupil views are included in this meeting. If you have any concerns, questions or suggestions about the school’s procedures and routines, please contact Mrs French to include them in the next meeting.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards

Kirsty Duff
