Heathery Knowe Nursery – Welcome to session 2022/2023

I hope all families have had a restful Summer break and are looking forward to the new session. The staff team is looking forward to welcoming everyone back today.  I am writing to update you about how the nursery will operate this session.

Staffing

Mrs O’Sullivan,  Depute Head Teacher, oversees the Nursery curriculum and all learning experiences offered to children. Mrs Ashcroft is Acting Team Leader until Ms McPherson returns to work.

Children arriving and leaving nursery

The normal session times for the nursery will be 8.45am-2.45pm. If you need Early Learning and Childcare provision outwith these times, please speak with Mrs Ashcroft.

Children do not need to attend for full sessions each day. If  you would prefer that your child attends nursery for a half day on some occasions, please let Mrs Ashcroft know and this can be part of their routine.

The car park is normally busy at drop off and pick up times and I kindly request that you park in a bay rather than drop off area if at all possible, The drop off area is used by families of school pupils to ensure children can get out of the car and straight onto the pavement safely.

All children will come in the main door and staff will be present to greet children.

Lunch and snack

Children will have lunch between 11.30-12.15pm in the school dining hall.  We encourage all children to try school lunches as they are balanced and fulfilling meals in the middle of the nursery day.  Water is available throughout the day and milk is also provided at lunch.

Fruit and yogurt will be available for an afternoon snack.

Quiet time

Children will have an opportunity to nap during the day if required. Please let staff know if your child normally has a nap and you would like this to continue. There is a planned quiet time after lunch while children return from the dining hall and brush their teeth ready for the afternoon session.

Key Workers

Each Key Worker has responsibility for up to 8 children in the nursery and will be the main contact for regular updates.

If there are any concerns or comments about your child’s experience in nursery, please contact Mrs Ashcroft in the first instance. As Team Leader, she is in the playroom every day and best placed to resolve any concerns. I am the main senior leadership team contact for Nursery to Primary 2 and will work with Mrs Ashcroft and families to discuss any concerns about your experience or additional support needs.

Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to welcoming children to Nursery.

Kind regards

Kirsty Duff
