Homework week commencing 27th September

Due to it being a short week, there is one maths sheet to complete which is based on rounding to the nearest 10.  This was covered in class 2 weeks ago.  You have been issued with a spelling grid to help with your spelling homework.  This is just a guide only as you need to find the strategy that works best for you.  You can record the strategies in your homework jotter if you wish.  Each Friday you will do your spelling test at the back of your homework jotter so that your family can see how you are coping with your words each week.  The spelling words are as follows:

Green and Yellow – Homophones

P5 Visit the Spanish Cafe

Today we visited the Spanish Café and got to sample Spanish omelette, chorizo, Spanish rice, tortilla chips and bread and jam.  We listened to Spanish music and some of us even did a little bit of dancing.

Tomorrow we will visit the Spanish photobooth and on Thursday we can wear a yellow or red top to school to represent Spain.

P5 Homework: Week commencing 19th September

As part of Hallside Modern Languages week, our homework this week is to create a door sign for the School Office in the Decant building.  The nameplate should be on A4 paper and should be landscape.  The sign should be written in both French(Le Bureau de L’ecole) and English with the words clearly visible.  Pictures can be added too to help the younger children read the sign and you might want to consider using the colours of the French flag.

We are also going to be holding elections for the Pupil Council in class next Tuesday 27th September so anyone who is interested should begin to prepare a speech at home this week to be delivered in class on the aforementioned date.  The speech should have an introduction and explain what you will do if you are elected and what qualities you have that make you a strong candidate.

Some of us have found estimating numbers on a numberline and rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 quite tricky so I have included some games for anyone who wishes to work on this at home.

Look at our beautiful butterflies!

On Tuesday 24th May our butterflies started to emerge from their chrysalis.  They are Painted Lady butterflies.

On Thursday 26th May we took them to the John Muir wildlife garden at the back of the school to release them.

As you can see, they children were amazed when they flew out of their butterfly habitat.

Here you can see one resting in the grass not long after it was released.

The children thoroughly enjoyed our topic and now have a much better understanding about the life cycle of the butterfly.
