the 3 quarries

Last week on Friday we went to the park with project 31 and learned about the 3 quarry’s at cambuslang park and about the girl who fell into a well and the 3rd quarry the witches cave they say that just to keep children away. we also found a band stand witch was a field for playing a sport but before all that it was also a quarry. they didn’t tell us much about the 2nd one but I went back on sunday and I think I found part of it. in the park there is a world war 1 memorial 2 of the people on it were from  hallside..  there are four different ways to get in one is to the modern parky area and the other three is to the quarries.  at first  they didn’t have a a lot of money so they could not afford a park but then someone from hamlton gave them money to make a park:).

Cambuslang Park Quarry

On Friday we went to Cambuslang park to learn from Project 31. Our topic was the Quarry. I learned what a Quarry is and we learned lots about them. There is a true story that a young girl fell down into a Quarry and died. There is three stories that we learned and are still not sure witch one is true. The stories are… The first one is that the little girl was trying to give her dad her lunch and she fell down and died sadly. The second one is that she was pushing her dolls pram and it tipped over the edge, she tried to catch it and fell in then she sadly passed away. The third and final story is that she began to play tennis with her friends and the ball rolled away so she went to get it and managed to fall in the big deep quarry and died 🙁  The reason why parents of young children tell them this story is so that they are very careful and don’t fall in. There is a big stone quarry wall and behind there used to be big caves (they are now covered). There is a myth that old,  scary witches live in the caves and if you go any were near them they will take you away and never let you go. Parents tell their children this so they seriously do not go in these caves because stone may fall on them.

Homework week commencing 6th November

Homework this week consists of:

  • Spelling
  • Maths
  • Reading Passport

Spelling homework this week is a bit different than normal.  On Friday you will be tested on a random selection of 20 words from the last 8 weeks spelling words.  Spend time revising the rules and focusing particularly on those words which you got incorrect in the tests.  Make use of your homework jotter, the strategies on the inside front cover and Spelling City to help you prepare for the test.

There is one maths homework sheet based on addition.

For your reading challenge, choose ONE of the articles below to read and then record it on page 7 of your reading passport.  One article is more challenging than the other so please choose the article which you feel best suits your ability:

Frogs and Climate Change

Your Reading Passport should also be a record of all of the books you read between now and next May so each time you finish a home lending book or personal book, then record it in your passport.

Project 31 event on Friday 3rd November

Today we visited Cambuslang Public Park.  We learned that Cambuslang Park dates back to 1913 and in 2013 celebrated its 100th year birthday! There was previously a glass house in the park but in the1970s, it, along with other things in the park, fell into disrepair.  We also learned that there used to be a quarry in which stone known as Cambuslang marble was mined.  Here are some pictures of us on our guided tour by Project 31!

If you can think of any other facts we learned today or would like to comment on your visit then please reply to this post.
