Homework week commencing 16th April

For homework this week, please ensure that you now know all the words to our two songs, Sunshine on Leith and Life with You off by heart.  Get someone at home to test you.

Also make sure you do at least 10 minutes of reading each night and record any finished books in your Reading Passport.

For maths, spend time going over your times tables and improving the speed of your mental maths.  Use the games on the Blog to help you.  You can also find your own games too.

26th March

Don’t forget that Microsoft Office 365 is free to download  from the Glow Launchpad using your login details.

Today we learned a few more tips about PowerPoint. For example after creating the title slide, it’s best to delete all the ready made text boxes on further slides and make one big text box of your own. This makes it easier for you to type in your own information.

Your last slide should reference all the websites you used. Here is an example of how this should look.

No Homework week commencing 26th March

There will be no homework this week due to the short week.

There are also no news reporters.  Last week, Chloe brought us the sad news that Stephen Hawkins passed away at the age of 76.  He was most famous for being a scientist, author and for living far longer than expected with Motor Neurone Disease.  Rhion brought us a fascinating story about a 99 year old Australian man who broke the record for a 50m freestyle swim.  He was competing in the 100-104 age category and was allowed to compete as his birthday was only a month away.  The new record he set was 35.12 seconds.

Have a great holiday everyone!

19th March -Scottish Wars of Independence

We learned how to use speech marks to narrow down the search to find relevant information. There are three places we can now search for information 1/ Mrs Duffy’s blog 2/ Google search engine 3/Bing search engine. We also learned how to reference websites and books. Remember to add useful websites to your favourites menu and write down the name and publisher of any books you’ve used.  I know it is tricky to understand some of the information so just try your best. Some people started making their presentation.

12th March – e-portfolios updated

Everyone now has one e-portfolio entry for March and we will try to write another before April. We got busy researching facts for the Scottish Wars of Independence topic and learned the meaning of a new word plagiarism. Although it’s tricky, try your best to use as many of your own words as you can. As we are researching from a range of sources we watched a video on the Scottish Wars of Independence and used the books from the class library as well. Remember to save websites you think might be useful, into your Wars of Independence folder in Favourites as you will need the addresses when you come to reference your work.

Frankies Magic Football

Today I read a book called Frankies Magic football vs the Cowboys crew .I am going to tell you a review about it.

Author Frank Lampard

Stars 3

I thought this book was ok because it was very entertaining. I thought it was a bit short for me becauase I read it in 1 day.

Recommendation

I would recommend this to kids 6+ and people who like Adventure/Football stories.

News Reporters week commencing 12th March

The news reporters this week are Chloe and Jay.

Last week Calum P brought us a great Power Point about the tragic news that 3 bodies were found last week in the River Clyde.  As yet, they have not been identified.  This is unfortunately not the first that this has happened as so far as this year, 6 bodies in total have been found.  Thank you Calum for this sad but mysterious story.

Murron brought us some great facts about the recent extreme weather we have all been experiencing.  She told us that the Beast from the East and Storm Emma caused people in Scotland to be stranded on the M80 for up to 12 hours causing them to have to rely on the kindness of local strangers to bring them hot drinks and food.  There was also a shortage of bread, milk and diesel as people were panic  buying and deliveries couldn’t get through.

Thank you both for your very interesting news reports.
