As part of our Rainforest topic, we all had the opportunity to sample some of the food products we get from the Rainforest.  On the menu there was:

Mango

Bananas

Fig

Dark chocolate

Coffee

Sugar

Pineapple

Interestingly, quite a lot of people enjoyed the figs and coffee and of course the sugar!!!!

Due to the short week, the only homework this week will be spelling and reading.  As always, homework is due in on Friday:

• Spelling – there are no new words this week, instead you need to look back over all of your word lists from 17th September till 12th November.  On Friday you will be tested on a random 20 words from these lists.  Make sure you look over all of the words but focus your LSCWC and all other activities on those words which you got incorrect in your test or found tricky to master.  Just to confirm that your LSCWC in your language jotter can just be a list of 10 words as normal chosen from your previous list of spelling words or you can extend it to 20 words this week if you wish to help you get fully prepared for the test on Friday.  I will leave the decision up to you.
• Reading – as always, try to read at least 10 minutes per night.

There will be no news reporters this week due to the short week.

Last week Bobby brought us the story of a Scottish man who got up at 4am to capture a picture of a Kingfisher.  After a 10 hour wait he finally managed to get one holding a fish in it’s mouth.  The amazing photograph was taken in Dumfries.

Last week, Luke brought us a most unusual story about a museum in Sweden that is trying to challenge people’s ideas of food in different countries.  Examples of things on the menu are fruit bat soup, maggots and cheese and eyeball juice.

Brooke also brought us a really informative report about the different colours of poppies and what they symbolise.  Purple is to represent animals who died in the war, black for African and Carribean people who lost their life and white poppies to represent peace.

Last week, Cacy brought us a really interesting story about a Russian and an American astronaut whose rocket suffered a malfunction but luckily they returned to earth safely.

Alana brought us news of the suggestion from plastic surgeons that all fireworks packaging should carry pictures showing possible injuries that people could get if they incorrectly use fireworks.

Thanks Cacy and Alana.  Very different and extremely interesting stories!

The news reporters this week are Cacy and Alana.

Last week Zainab brought us the story of Golf Island, a remote overseas island where seabirds are becoming endangered because of super sized mice.  These mice are 50% bigger than normal and are eating the chicks.  The Albatross is one of the birds likely to become extinct because of this problem.

Lucas brought us the story of an American boy named Teddy who invited his class of 32 to a pizza restaurant to celebrate his birthday but no-one showed up.  Upon hearing of this sad story, local baseball and football teams invited him to their stadiums for a visit.

Thank you very much Zainab and Lucas for those very different and interesting stories.
