We have had lots of successful learners and responsible citizens throughout the class so far this year and we look forward to sharing our learning journey with you over the next few months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_HVIheZ2Vph9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_6KFN5s7zj0B\" class=\"\">Literacy<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_4cIheZIVph9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_2gJFqwIe7tD\" class=\"\">Talk For Writing<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_tiIheZYVph9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_OlV1Z2sl7v7\" class=\"\">P5\/6 will be continuing to develop their writing skills through the Talk for Writing programme. We are currently working on our narrative writing where we are using elements of the Writer\u2019s Toolkit to bring our stories to life. In addition, weekly quick burst writing sessions and use of the upper school Read to Write area will help increase our confidence when writing. Our next writing block links to our class topic \u2018The Romans\u2019, where we will explore newspaper writing. In addition, we will continue to engage with regular T4W games designed to help uplevel our writing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_2gJheZoXph9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_3ak49R3otbB\" class=\"\">Reading<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_rmJheZ2Yph9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_RoX3XmilLZ8\" class=\"\">Over the next couple of weeks, we will be turning our attention to our Scottish poems. We will continue to use our Active Reading strategies such as Comparing, Metalinguistics and Visualising to help understand what we are reading and to work out the meanings of tricky words. We will continue with our class novels after our exploration of the Scottish texts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_pP4ieZI1th9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_SVp7QmsUK42\" class=\"\">Spelling<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_0J4ieZ21th9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_rzkcIgibhW5\" class=\"\">Yellow Bananas \u2013 we will be continuing to study prefixes and suffixes and look at how they change the meanings of words. We will also explore commonly misspelt and complex words associated with different curricular areas. Word Attack strategies such as \u2018Say It Silly\u2019, \u2018Knowledge of Phonemes\u2019 and \u2018Mnemonics\u2019 will be used to break down and determine the meanings of these tricky words.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_DC4ieZo0th9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_qy4rL4Ill41\" class=\"\">Red Strawberries &#8211; We will continue to explore the different representations of different phonemes and commonly misspelt words. This process will be aided by regular partner work and use of active spelling strategies. We are encouraged to provide feedback to our partners daily and to reflect on our own spelling mistakes to ensure we don\u2019t make them again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_Q54ieZY0th9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_bvUzThAZXd0\" class=\"\">Blueberries and Green Apples \u2013 We will continue to work hard on our phonemes and use them to read and spell words of increasing difficulty. We will also recap and reinforce our previously learnt phonemes through use of L,C,W,C pads, Spelling Zappers and group active spelling games. We are also encouraged to provide feedback to our partners daily and to reflect on our own spelling mistakes to ensure we don\u2019t make them again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_d_4ieZI0th9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_A6nqBYH1qC6\" class=\"\">Maths<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_qt3ieZ20th9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_kdo0mP26IW3\" class=\"\">Primary 5\/6 will be continuing to work hard on our times tables and division facts through interactive ICT activities, regular whole class mental maths games and class board games. In addition, weekly multiplication\/division workshops are helping us with learning and remembering our maths facts. In our class work this term, we will be working on linking decimals, fractions and percentages, exploring units of measure, such as length and weight and 2D and 3D shape. We will also develop strategies to help us tackle trickier word problems containing these concepts. It is important that we continue to look at our focus times tables and division facts regularly at home as they creep into many areas of Maths.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_1n3ieZo-th9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_QB0jlhct6P1\" class=\"\">Health and Wellbeing<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_Eg3ieZY-th9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_tMwrbL4_hYD\" class=\"\">In PE, we will be tackling ball skills, exploring techniques such as passing, shooting, dribbling and defensive positioning. We will also reinforce the concept of teamwork during these sessions. In addition, we will look at how our diet and fitness can contribute to our physical and mental health. We will continue to link areas of our learning to the Emotion Works cogs in order to better understand our feelings and formulate strategies to help us manage them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_BG5ieZI3th9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_yURqOANdrb2\" class=\"\">Interdisciplinary Learning<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_O95ieZ23th9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_WJVD9Nsa5O3\" class=\"\">We will be exploring The Romans and Ancient Rome this term. This topic will seep into all areas of the curriculum. We will investigate what daily life and schools were like in Ancient Rome before looking at the Roman army and the Empire they built. You are invited to travel back in time with us on the 20th of March, as we welcome you to share in our Romans Assembly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_u0pfeZoaih9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_pnrKS0tRqq8\" class=\"\">The Romans Assembly<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_h7pfeZ2bih9\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_R_EXx6vhBG0\" class=\"\">After our Christmas Show performance last term, we have the performing bug and can\u2019t wait to show off again at our Romans assembly. We will be working hard on our learning in class to put on a super show and we hope you will learn loads of new facts. We would love to see you there. Primary 5\/6 also look forward to going on our whole school trip later in the term.
