What have we been up to?<\/p>\n
Water<\/p>\n
The Sustainability Pupil Voice Group have worked as advocates to share the importance of saving water in school and at home. They monitored how often the taps were being left on in classes and reported back at Pupil Voice Group meetings to discuss how we could reduce this. They also completed some random checks to see if any classes were wasting water.<\/span><\/p>\n At the beginning, we recorded that in classes, water was wasted every day due to people forgetting to turn off the tap! After our Eco monitors implemented the random checks and informed classes of the importance of reducing water wastage, we noticed that most of the time taps were turned off straight after use and children were more mindful when using the taps. Classes also reported to our janitor, Colin, if they noticed any dripping taps!<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Biodiversity<\/span><\/p>\n The Sustainability Group wanted to grow their own plants too. Due to the wildlife in our forest, we find that animals can dig up our plants before they are ready. We asked Mrs McCann, our headteacher, if she could fund a small greenhouse. She was delighted with the idea and we were able to grow watercress, carrots and lettuce!<\/span><\/p>\n Litter<\/p>\n As a school, we always encourage the children to participate in litter picking. Each class has forest school sessions and allocated times to visit the woods each week. Whilst at the woods the children always have opportunities to complete a litter pick and most children are excited to do so. We always notice a difference in the litter after Forest School sessions after a school holiday where litter can be blown into our woods. The children are always keen to tidy up the woods and notice the difference after a good litter pick!<\/span><\/p>\n The classes also engaged with litter picks throughout the two-year period. Classes took turns at Forest School and when out on community walks to clean up our local environment.<\/span><\/p>\n Recycling<\/p>\n The Enterprise pupil group asked for donations of Halloween costumes to resell or swap before our Halloween disco and community walk. If you have any items that you are throwing away but may be of use we would love to take them off your hands. We are also looking for seeds, if you have any excess lying around\u00a0 and lastly we are looking for a small plastic greenhouse.\u00a0 Thank you .<\/p>\n We are super excited to get started!<\/p>\n
