In our classroom, children are encouraged to be curious, work hard, and take pride in their achievements. We value kindness, teamwork, and doing our best every day, whether we are learning new skills, exploring creative topics, or challenging ourselves in problem-solving. We are excited for a fantastic year of learning and growth together!

GENERAL INFORMATION

Please ensure your child has a pair of indoor shoes in school. They will change into these when entering the school building.

If your child is bringing a bottle to school, we would encourage this to be water only. This will help to keep our carpets clean if there is a spillage.

Our PE days are a Wednesday and Friday.

Children should have an outdoor jacket every day as we aim to take the children outside at some point each day. Pupils should also have a pair of indoor shoes to change into within the classroom.

Miss Hart will use homework diaries to communicate with parents and carers. Homework will be issued on a Monday and will be due in by Friday each week, although can be brought in earlier if completed before Friday. In Chatelherault, children earn 6 minutes of golden time each day throughout the week and are then awarded their 30 minutes of golden time from the week on a Friday afternoon. If children lose any golden time this will be communicated in the homework diaries.

CLASS CHARTER

Chatelherault is a Gold Rights Respecting School, therefore Primary 4 have been learning about their rights under the UNCRC (United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child). The class voted for a theme for the class charter and have created a display to show their rights and responsibilities. Each child has representation within the class charter and has contributed to creating the display.

August

All pupils have settled in well and are excited to be in Primary 4! We are so excited for the year ahead.

Term 1

Forest School

Primary 4 have been enjoying their Forest School sessions in the woods, where they have the chance to learn outdoors and connect with nature. The children take part in hands-on activities such as exploring the woodland, building shelters, and discovering different plants and wildlife. They have shown great teamwork, curiosity, and resilience while learning new skills in a natural environment. Forest School is helping them build confidence, independence, and a deeper appreciation for the world around them.

Art

Primary 4 have been exploring outdoor art inspired by Andy Goldsworthy, using natural materials found in the school grounds and surrounding environment. The children created beautiful temporary artworks using leaves, stones, twigs, and flowers, carefully arranging them to reflect patterns, shapes, and textures in nature. They showed great creativity, patience, and attention to detail as they worked outdoors, thinking about balance, colour, and design. This experience helped them appreciate how art can be created in harmony with nature, and how even simple natural objects can be transformed into something special.

Swimming

Primary 4 have been thoroughly enjoying their swimming block, where they are developing important water confidence and safety skills. Everyone showed great enthusiasm and a positive attitude as they tried something new.
As the programme continues, Primary Four will keep developing their skills, leading up to an end-of-programme hockey tournament where they will have the chance to put everything they have learned into practice.

Term 3

Term 4

Sports Day

Primary 4 had a fantastic time at Sports Day, showing great teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the event. The children have worked hard on their technique, teamwork, and game understanding in preparation for competition. They were excited to take part in a tennis tournament against other schools, where they demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship, determination, and resilience. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to apply their learning in a real match setting and represent the school with pride.

School Show

Primary 4 thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the school production of Matilda, and they are very proud of all they achieved. The children carefully planted a variety of seeds and have been observing the changes each week, recording what they see and discussing what plants need to grow well. They have shown great responsibility in watering and caring for their seedlings, learning about the importance of looking after the environment. They have shown great enthusiasm and curiosity while discovering how each instrument contributes to the overall performance of an orchestra. It has been a fantastic way to deepen their understanding and appreciation of music.

Numeracy – Measurement

In today’s lesson, Primary 4 pupils learned about measurement by using rulers and tape measures to measure the length of different objects in the classroom. They practised measuring accurately in centimetres and metres, ensuring that they started from the zero mark and read the scale carefully. The pupils compared the lengths of objects, recorded their measurements, and discussed which measuring tool was most suitable for different items. Through hands-on activities, they developed their understanding of length, improved their measuring skills, and built confidence in using standard units of measurement in everyday situations.

Primary 4 with Miss Hart Welcome to Room 13!
