Welcome Back

Welcome back to a new school session at Cathkin Primary School. I hope you all had a great summer break and managed to make the most of the summer sunshine.

I have been very impressed to see that the majority of our children have come to school in their full school uniform. I am sure that you will agree that all of our children are looking extremely smart. Please be advised that we have a selection of pre-loved school uniform that we would encourage parents/carers to take advantage of.
This letter is to share with you important information regarding our school and to seek your support with aspects of our school routines.

Communication with the school
If you need to contact the school then please:
Telephone: 0141 634 4569 or Email: gw14cathkinpsoffice@glow.sch.uk

If your child is going to be absent from school then we would appreciate if you telephone, to inform the school by 9:30am on the first day of absence.

Letters will be issued soon to parents and carers for a variety of reasons. These will be issued via SLC’s Parentsportal platform. If you require support with signing up to this portal then please contact or pop in to the school office, where staff will be on-hand to support you with getting this online platform set-up. Mobile Phones

Please note that it is not necessary for mobile phones to be brought into schools. Mobiles brought into school will be at the owners risk. Pupils should ensure that their phones are switched off and handed in before they go into their classroom. Mobile phones will be returned to pupils at the end of the school day.

Administration of Medication
Throughout a school session there may be times and occasions when children require medication to be taken at school. All medication to be administered must be in date and have a pharmaceutical label with the child’s name and dosage on the label.

Nut Free Zone
Our school is a nut free-zone. Please ensure that children are not bringing in any snacks that contain nuts/ nut derivatives.

Breakfast Club
Our breakfast club has recommenced. The breakfast club will be open from 8:30am and close at 8:50am on Mondays to Fridays. Pupils attending the club should enter the school via the school playground and then go into the school building via Door A.

Payment via Parent Pay
Please note that all payments for school lunches, milk and events can only be made via Parent Pay. If you require further information on accessing your Parent Pay account then please phone the school office team.

School Uniform
Please can you remember to label your child’s blazer, jacket, sweatshirt/cardigan, where possible. This will support us to easily identify misplaced clothing.

Nurture Week

During the week beginning Monday 10 February we will be celebrating
Nurture Week at school. Throughout this week learners will engage in various activities to develop
their understanding of nurture, kindness and empathy. Below is an outline of the focus for each day
during Nurture Week.

· Motivational Monday
· Talk it Tuesday
· Walk a Mile Wednesday
· Thoughtful Thursday
· Feel Good Fruit Friday

We are excited to host our first Wellbeing Cafe on Wednesday 12th February 3-4pm. The Wellbeing
Cafe will provide an opportunity for families to spend time together engaging in relaxing, mindfulness
activities.

Friday 14 February will be a ‘Dress Down Day’. Pupils can come to school dressed in the colour of their
favourite fruit. During this day, each class will be working with our Pupil Attachment Ambassadors,
Staff and Parent Volunteers to make healthy fruit kebabs to enjoy in class. We are looking forward to
a happy and healthy Nurture Week.

Our Super Cathkin Coders

We were delighted to receive a grant from the Digital Xtra Fund to allow us to set up our Cathkin Coders Club. This was a lunchtime club where children from P5 & 6 were given the opportunity to learn to code with Marty the Robot. We also had a visit from Emma a software developer who was able to talk to the children about her job and what it is like to work in the tech industry. At the end of the block we had  learning showcase which we named Marty’s Got Talent. The children enjoyed this opportunity to present and  showcase their learning. Emma, Maha from @DigitalXtraFund and Mrs Black were our judging panel.  Everyone was very impressed with the coding skills the team has learned and the creativity showcased by them all – our wining team was the Superspies- well done girls!

We plan to run a little coders club for P1 & 2 after the Easter break- look out for those letters coming home.
