All about textures.

Have you noticed that different surfaces when touched, feel different?  Orange surface doesn’t feel the same as apples…and neither of them feel the same as a kiwi. This is just an example of different textures. It you use your hands to feel the surface of items your can feel whether it’s soft, rough, hard, smooth or fluffy.

Mrs Burns is setting you a task this week. She would like you to gather different items in your house or garden and sort them into groups. She has provided an example to give you an idea.

You can see from the photos that Mrs Burns has labelled her items. It would be great if you could find different items from the ones in Mrs Burns photo.

Once you have collected and sorted your items, take a wee photo and send it over to share on the blog.

Have fun exploring textures.

Sink or float

Do you know why things sink or float?

Watch the episode of Messy goes to Okido and then have a wee chat with an adult about what you think.

MESSY GOES TO OKIDO

Now for the science bit…

You need to find a container for water. This can be anything- bucket, basin, pot or even your paddling pool. Fill it more than half with water.

Next you need to gather things from.around your home or garden to test. One at a time drop the items into the water to find out if they sink or float.

Make a pile of items that float and items that sink. Take a photo and send it to the nursery account and I will share it with your friends.

Have fun!

P.S safety- please make sure an adult stays with you at all times while you play with the water.

Science week!

This week we thought we would have a science focus. So many of you have been exploring new things at home, so everyday this week there will be a different science related activities for you to try.

Inspired by Zac’s activity, I thought it would be nice to try and create our own record of the birds that visit our gardens or the birds we see out on our walks.

You will need-

*binoculars

Here is a link to a video to show you how to make if you don’t have any at home.

A picture of nature 🌾🍃🌺🌹🍁

A wee challenge for the weekend. The weather has been lovely outside and lots of us have been out and about enjoying the outdoors in our hour of exercise. This weekend while you are on you walk or in the garden collect some natural items. You could collect twigs, leaves  flowers, stones and I would like you to create your own work of art.

Below are some examples from our lovely nursery ladies.

Miss McAteer made a beautiful house, using twigs for the outline and leaves and flowers for the detail.

Miss Revie made a funny face to make everyone smile.

Mrs Canning made a frame from leaves and used pine cones to create tropical looking trees.

Miss Sherry made a very pretty picture using flowers of spring.

Mrs Burns used some logs and lovely flowers to create  a picture of the wood cutter in the woods.

Miss McMenemy improvised and used some natural pot pourri to create a snowy tree.  So if you can’t get outdoors, feel free to use natural things around the house.

I can’t wait to see your creations.

Sensory play 👀🖐👃👂👄

If the weather isn’t so great why not try some indoor sensory play.

You could

* fill the bath or sink and use different containers from the kitchen to fill and empty and move water.

*you could play with bubbles, how many can you make? How big or small can you make your bubble?

*you could (with a grown ups permission) spread some shaving foam on a flat surface and mark make. You could make shapes for others to guess? Practise letters? You could even change the colour of it with some food colouring

* one of our favourites in nursery…playdough. what will you make? Can u make it big/small? Long/short? Fat/thin? What colour will it be? What will be the consistency?

Below is some recipes to make your perfect playdough…

Have fun and don’t forget to share your photos with us. 🥰

Lend a helping hand!🖐

Grown ups have been doing a fantastic job carrying out your learning at home and keeping you all busy learning new skills. So today’s challenge is to do something kind for someone else. This could be a chore around the house… hoover, polish, do the dishes, make a healthy snack, help with some gardening etc. Anything that helps your grown up.

Remember and take some photos and send them to the  nursery email. We would love to see how you are helping others.

Take care

Missing you all ❤

Miss McMenemy

We love your home learning 💕

The boys and girls have been doing an excellent job with their home learning. They have been using lockdown as an opportunity to learn new skills and build their confidence. Here are some of our children achieving great things and making us proud…

Maisy has been baking and helping around the house. Mum said she has been playing and sharing with her sister and doing a great job with her home learning.

Hollie has been painting at home. She has been put on the garden lots and playing with her little brother.

Ronan learned to ride his bike without stabilizers 👏 and he learned how to do a front flip on his trampoline. Well done, fantastic achievements.

Ava has been practising her numbers using different resources. She helped to fill her paddling pool and sandpit and has been making the most of the beautiful weather.

Sofia has been practising her numbers and her mark making skills. Great work! She has been in her paddling pool, relaxing and cooling down in this lovely weather.

Jacob out with his sister Emily on Emily bikes, enjoying the sunshine.

Parker has been practising his writing and numbers. He has even been practising sums!!! Well done. He has been making the most of the weather by going a walk and spending time in his back garden.

Skylar has been enjoying time outside on her bouncy castle and her big brother carson has been helping her to ride her bike. Great team work!

Keep up the fantastic work everyone! You are doing a super job! 🌟🌟🌟

More designer dens

The boys and girls have definietly worked hard this week to create brilliant dens. We have been so impressed with your hard work.

Maisy made a den and shared it with her sister, she names it Maisy and Clara’s den 😊 great work!

Parker made his den outside and let his sister in. He had a password for his den…lockdown, shhhh don’t tell anyone. He would take snacks, his iPad and number blocks with him.

Ronan worked together with his brother to build his den 😊looks great!
