Information for Primary 1 Children
Auchengray Primary School serves the rural communities of Woolfords, Auchengray, Tarbrax and the surrounding areas. It is a non-denominational primary school, which provides education from P1–P7 with children then transferring to Biggar High School for S1. The current role is 23 pupils taught in two multi-composite classes – Primary 1-4 and Primary 5-7. The pupils are taught by our Principal Teacher, Ms Wright (Primary 5 to 7) and Miss Hilston (Primary 1 to 4). Mrs Murphy and Miss Whitelaw provides cover for Non-contact Time and Management Time. Mrs Leggate is our learning support teacher who visits school on a regular basis to give advice. Mrs Drummond and Mrs Todd are our support staff team who provide both clerical and classroom support.
The original school was built in 1870. As part of South Lanarkshire’s Schools Modernisation Programme a new building was constructed in 2015 and opened to pupils on 8th January 2016. It comprises one classroom, one break out area and a hall which is used as a canteen and for PE, assemblies and events. Meals are prepared, cooked and served on the premises by our cook, Mrs Bell. Mr Kelly is our cleaner/caretaker; he meets the pupils off the buses in the morning and escorts them out to the buses again in the afternoon.
Outside we have a playground, multi-use games area (MUGA) and a grassy area which can be used during the year to enhance outdoor learning. We make full use of our local area and the facilities it offers to enhance the curriculum for our pupils. We have very good links established with other agencies and we work closely with them to Get It Right for Every Child. The school continues to foster well-established links in our wider rural community.
