P1 Transition Information
WELCOME TO ABINGTON PRIMARY SCHOOL
We are delighted to welcome all our new entrants and their families to Abington Primary School. Starting a new school is exciting, but we realise it can also be an anxious time for parents and children. At Abington Primary we aim to support a smooth transition in order to ensure your child settles happily and quickly with us in August. As part of your child’s transition to Abington Primary School we arrange a number of activities and events to help you and your child get to know us better. Please be assured that if you have any questions or concerns we will be happy to speak with you or meet with you to support any individual needs.
What do we have planned to support your child’s transition to P1?
Buddies: All our current Primary 6 children will soon undertake Buddy Training. The children who attend Abington Nursery will be meeting and getting to know the P6 Buddies. Your child will be allocated a named buddy, who they will have the opportunity to meet and spend time with across the transition visits, in the lunch hall and playground at playtimes, and during their first few weeks of school. On the first day of school in August, our P1’s are greeted by their P7 buddy. P7 pupils provide fantastic support to their P1 buddies throughout the year, both through planned for buddy activities and through the general everyday life of the school. The buddy system proves to be very successful each year.
School Visits: Children who attend Abington Nursery will make visits to our P.1 open area, lunch hall and playground in small groups during the last term. There will be specific transition events for parents and carers to give you a chance to view the school and meet staff. This will also be an opportunity for us to share information about our school, and for parents to ask any questions they may have. Members of our Parent Council a will also speak about the work that they do and will be keen to encourage new parents to become involved in the life of the school.
