I was looking through it and found a recipe for wartime cake. It was used in wartime because they were no eggs in it which were hard to come by during the war. Feel \u00a0free to try it.<\/p>\n<p>War time cake<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients<\/p>\n<p>1 cup of syrup<\/p>\n<p>4 ozs Margarine<\/p>\n<p>1 cup sultanas<\/p>\n<p>Teaspoon Mixed Spice<\/p>\n<p>1 cup currants<\/p>\n<p>1 cup of milk<\/p>\n<p>pinch of salt<\/p>\n<p>3 cups plain flour<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 teaspoon of baking powder<\/p>\n<p>1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda<\/p>\n<p>Boil syrup, margarine, sultanas, mixed spice, currants and milk together for 3 minutes. Leave to cool. Dissolve baking soda in a little warm water. Then add to bowl with flour and bicarb. Mix boiled ingredients with flour mixture.
