P.E. on Wednesday and Friday

Maths – we will continue to work on place value.

Language – We have been working on warning tales in writing. This will be something we continue to do this week. Can’t wait to read them! We will learn some common words as well as revising the ‘ay/ey/a-e/ai’ sounds and the ‘qu’ spelling rule. We will hopefully begin our class novel this week and look to do some reciprocal reading activities around it.

Japan – we will look at some of the similarities and differences between Japan and Scotland and will learn some Japanese numbers to 10.

Spelling

Big Group – Common words (below) and find as many words containing the ‘ai’ ‘a-e’ ‘ay’ and ‘ey’ phonemes and write them in your jotter.

Wee group – common words (below) and find as many words containing the ‘ay’ phoneme. E.g. say

too  school   some    never 

Reading – read for at least 15 minutes this week.

Maths – Sumdog and learn the 7 times table. There will be a wee tables quiz this week.

Literacy

Spelling – learn the words and come up with other ‘qu’ words.

Reading – read for at least 15 minutes. Be prepared to tell me about your book if I ask.

Maths – Sumdog and revise the 6 times table fully.

PE days are Wednesday and Friday. Please try to have a gym kit and water on these days.

In Maths this week we will continue to learn about place value and will look at how and when to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000.

In Literacy we will be working with The Iron Man text and developing our comprehension and writing skills alongside this.

Our topic this term is Japan. This week we will be using our mapping skills to help us understand where it is.

Literacy

Reading
Read Ch 5 of the Iron Man and summarise the chapter. Remember to do this in as few points as you can without missing out anything important. (Please bring in your book in every day)

Spelling
Learn your list of common words.

All groups – write 3 ‘ay’ words and 3 ‘ai’ words. Try to apply diacritical marking with them.

Maths
Revise your 2,3,4,5 and 10 times tables. You MUST know these well. Use Hit the Button to help. Also you should be able to make the link with division. Fluency and speed are important.

Spelling – LACASACAWAC words and write 3 sentences. Spelling test on Friday.

P3s read Chapter 2 and P4s read Chapter 3 for THURSDAY.

Maths – fraction worksheet. Revise tables (P3s 2,3,4,5 and 10/ P4s all tables) and link with division. You MUST know these well.

Prepare a short oral book review. We discussed this in class but here’s a short recap. Talk about the author and why you’ve chosen to read the book. Discuss your favourite character and why? What is your favourite part and why? Who would you recommend the book to? Think about props, eye contact, volume and tone.

Library group 1 and 2 will present this week, Group 3 and 4 the following week and then Group 5 and 1.

Extras – Sumdog, extra reading at home, story writing, diary writing, drawing pictures, extra research for Under the Sea topic.

Maths

P3 have been learning about halves, quarters and thirds. They can also find the fraction of an amount. Keep revising your tables.

P4 have been learning to find the fraction of an amount and have also started to look at equivalent fractions.

Next week we will all look at co-ordinates and directions.

Literacy

We have been looking at ways to develop our comprehension.

Topic

We have been looking at food webs, especially involving sea creatures. We have also been looking at the layers of the ocean.

We made the most of the sunny weather and went outside to show off all our fraction knowledge.

In maths we’re learning about counting squares to calculate the areas of shapes.

In writing we’ve been looking at describing settings and using this in portal stories.

We’re putting the finishing touches to our Engineer Award entries. Really impressed with the work. Please have a wee nosy at our display at parents’ night. Our new topic will be Under the Sea. Can’t wait to see what we’ll find out.
