This week on Wednesday , our class went down to the P2/3 department to read them some kids books. Some of us dressed up for them. After we had read them some books we asked them some questions. They managed to answer very well. We all had a good laugh together. They were a well behaved class so next time we might write our own books together as two classes.

Today we read some stories to the P2/3 class. I was really impressed with how well you worked together and also with how well you interacted with the wee ones. They all had a great time and enjoyed your visit! Please comment below with your thoughts/views/favourite parts of the session.
On Wednesday we will read to the infant department. Please bring in stories as discussed.
In Maths, P6 will be learning more about place value of numbers to 1 million and P7 will complete rounding work and a little revision of previous topics before moving into Tee Jay work.
In language, we will continue to read The Iron Man whilst looking at author techniques, reading strategies and thinking skills. We will also be writing instructions on how to build a paper helicopter.
We will begin our topic of Japan. Have a think about anything you would like to learn.

This week in science we learned about STEAM ; Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics. We learned about trial and error as would happen in designing something. We made paper helicopters. After doing that we experimented in the size shape and form. The goal was to keep it in the air for the longest time possible and as gravity took control it went down whilst spinning like the rotor blades of a helicopter. As fun as this was it certainly took some time patience and effort. You may think paper is just paper but we found different types of paper work differently. Mrs Maxwell showed us her paper helicopter and the whole class thought to make it smaller because Mrs Maxwell was perfect and was very small. However our group tried and tried with small pieces and it did not work out. At this point we had no idea what to do. Thankfully Millie had the idea to make it bigger so that the air created a small force to help it stay up longer as well we reshaped so that it caught air and spun on its way down. I had a great time with my group ; Millie Qaasim and Brodie. I love science and I’m super excited for this term. Although my group didn’t win we definitely made a successful and personalized paper helicopter. The main lesson here was trial and error and I’ve got a great understanding of that now. I know now for future reference that changing something even the slightest bit can make a huge difference. I loved this lesson. I definitely hope to be doing more things just like this.
We were working together to design a helicopter which would stay in the air longest. As a group we decided to change some variables to improve the design. As you can see there was a clear winner but I have to say I’m impressed with the process each group went through.
