Dave the Snake

This is Dave the Snake. We made him as part of the John Muir Award we are doing. We made him out of stones which we painted with acrylic paint and pens. We would like others to add stones to help Dave grow. This could be a good October holiday project!

Our rock painting

We are taking part in the John Muir Award. One of the things we have to do is painting stones. We got to choose any design we wanted, some people got an iPad for ideas. Our class had made avocados, snakes, smiley faces and mandalas and loads more. O

nce we are finished then we will make a stone snake out of all our rocks. We will place them somewhere around the school we will call them a surprise name, wait until further notice as we have not decided. All the classes will add to the snake until it is super long.

We have a outside coffee morning

On Tuesday the 29th of September we had a outdoor coffee morning that was basically a early snack outside because of covid and our parents not being allowed in. It was still good though. We also got a early break and made NHS bunting and put money to the NHS Endowment Fund. 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃

Trust Obstacles

This term in RME we are learning about the value of Trust. Today we guided a partner through a blindfolded obstacle course. We learned how important it is to trust our partner and to think about how everyone will respond differently.

STEM Golden Time 2.0

This year Primary 7 have been organising our Golden Time, revamping it as GT2.0. They have learned lots of skills – organisation, responsibility and leadership to name a few.

The current block has a focus on STEM (Science, Technologies, Engineering and Mathematics) and P7 have come up with some brilliant ideas – non-cook food, Lego challenges, STEM challenges, building volcanoes and cars.

Here are some photos from the first two weeks.

Scottish Parliament Visit

Last Tuesday we had a visit from an Education Officer from The Scottish Parliament. We learned a lot and took part in a mock election and debate with our very own Presiding Officer – Lewis.

Here is what we learned from our visit (we split into groups and wrote about a different topic each):

There is a difference between parliament, the government and assemblies. The Scottish parliament controls Scotland and the UK parliament controls the whole of the UK. There are different assemblies across the UK as well but they have to ask the UK parliaments permission before they make decisions. However the government works in parliament and they make the decisions for the people.

Devolve means to give power to another assembly so they can make decisions by themselves. Scotland have a devolved parliament which means that they can make some decisions by themselves.

However the government works in parliament and they make the decisions for the people.

Fair voting. When you are voting in a debate there are gadget voting devices with three options: 1 for agreeing with the opening statement that yes you want to do whatever was proposed at the start of the debate. 2 is disagreeing with subject of argument and wanting back the old or letting in the new. 3 means directly abstain or I am not participating in this vote. But if the vote is a draw the decision goes to the presiding officer who always has to choose the option no, they do not have a choice. And the vote is officially closed. Then the presiding officer’s hammer strikes the table and it is over.

In the Scottish parliament then MSPs

debate on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursday and the debate about people’s opinions about law. The presiding officer calls them are up people to say their opinion about the subject they are discussing. At the end they vote for the thing that they have been talking about.

Operation: Gingerbread Man Fundraiser (GBMF)

Today we did a fundraiser to raise money for Save the Children. We learned about the war in Syria and Yemen and thought it would be a good idea to help the children to afford medicine, shelter, warmth, food and clean water. So we sold gingerbread men, chocolate hearts and plain circle biscuits for 50p only having one each. Early Years and all the classes bought biscuits and put in a little donation (some people put in more) and we taught them a little about the war in Syria and Yemen. First we set up a few tables one for donations, information, gingerbread, chocolate and plain biscuits. Then we made signs and decorated money tubes. Next Miley, Leah, Kelsey, Lucy and Hamish went to Early Years. Finally it was time to sell the biscuits. First they came to the donation table and put in there money for a biscuit. Next they took there choice of biscuit and we took some photos. We raised an incredible £88.69! It was so fun we would love to do it again!
