Wonder trip to Mareel

Today has been a very exciting day. This morning we went on the bus to Mareel. We went there to go and see the new amazing film called Wonder.

We have been reading the book in class and thought if the new film was coming out why don’t we go and see it.

The book is about a little boy called August. He has had 27 surgeries on his face. His mum has home schooled him all his life and thought it was time for him to go to a real school. It is all about what happens at the new school.

We recommend this book for everybody.

Book Quiz Final

3 children from primary 7 went to a book quiz final on Wednesday the 6th of Dec.

At the book quiz there was not only primary 7’s from different schools but over half of them were secondary 1’s.

Overall our primary 7’s got 7th place which is quite good considering the amount of older children there was.

There were 3 rounds and they were very tricky. In each round there was a possible fifteen points to be won and our primary 7’s got a pretty good score. Also at the end of the 3 rounds there was a speed test and the group with the fastest and the correct answer got a bonus point.

To end up with we all had fun and we were quite proud of ourselves.

Budgeting in Maths

Today in Maths we have been planning movies or holidays. We had a budget of £800 and we had to try not to spend more.

We were put into pairs and were given the choice of two sheets. We had to choose what activities to do and where the holiday was going to be. We had to choose equipment we might need.

The film groups had to choose at least two actors. We had to pick what sets and props we needed.

We had to think about money, budgeting, times tables, adding, subtracting, using calculators, percentages, dividing, using large numbers, best deal, reading and understanding the information, working out discount, problem solving and keeping ideas organised.

We found it quite interesting and very fun. We didn’t realise we were doing so much maths!

Stress balls, a fitness class and business prep!

The Charity Fundraisers

This week we made and sold stress balls to the Primary 1,2,3 and 4’s. We got them to pick which one they wanted and personalise it and put hair on them. We made £34.21.

We have also been cutting up brown paper to make homemade wrapping paper which we will finger paint to look like Christmas things.

The Big Investors

Last week we had a fitness/dance class. We were teaching teachers and the kids through the school how to keep fit.It went well and we think people enjoyed it. We did stretching and different exercises. We are organising a guess the square game this week.

J.L.F.I

A.C.E

We are holding a bring and buy sale and are are making Hama bead key rings. We have lots of work to do before next week.

World Wide Business

One of the things we are doing is making 3D Christmas trees for a game. We put our Christmas puzzle sheets in the shop and we’ve finished our hamper.

Today the P7’s went to Anderson High School to take part in a book quiz. The groups all did very well (even though some of the questions were quite tricky!)

Everyone enjoyed seeing the new school. It made us excited to start.

Here we are in the library.

Visit from Mark Robinson

Mark Robinson visited and told us about his business. He told us how his business started, he told us that his business has gone down in generations. It started with two friends, his Granddad and David Morrison. Mark Robinson’s father started working at the shop when he was only 15 and was still working till 71! He still helps out today. We got some good tips for our businesses.

We’ve  all enjoyed it!!

One of the groups managed to do a bit of a business deal too!

Internet Safety

We had a visit from Rachel the police officer. She was talking to us about how important it is to stay safe online. Now I realise it is really important. These are some of the rules on how to stay safe online!

. Keep your settings private

. Read before you accept

. Remember some people are not who they say they are online

. Don’t give away too much information about yourself online

Those are some of the things you can do to stay safe online!

We made some posters to remind people about staying safe online.

Sponsored silence

Today we are doing a sponsored silence for charity. The charity we are doing it for is called Wild Hearts and the money we raise goes to people in different countries to start their own businesses. They get a micro loan to buy something and sell it and eventually pay it back.

Project Update

A.C.E

This week we have been making star decorations and Christmas trees to sell. We’ve been looking to order key rings and hama beads but we’ve not got enough money yet to buy them. We are growing to work better with each other.

Busy making crafts to sell.

The Co-operative Charity

We have been very productive this week. We’ve made Christmas trees for our open day and have got some good ideas for a game. We’ve also finished our raffle poster and have been thinking of better and more complex ideas than we have been. We’ve contacted businesses and have got 4 prizes. We are working really well. Two of us go to do one thing and two of us do another thing so we end up getting two things done at once.

J.L.F.I

First we organised our folder so that we can find things because it was a complete mess and we crammed everything we could find into it! This week we have been making Christmas Cards to sell. We are going to start putting them all together. We are working together much better than when we started. We actually all have jobs to do. We are compromising and getting on with it.

Proud of our organised folder!

The Big Investors

We have been making posters for all the games and activities we are going to do. Next week we are doing a dance/fitness class and football training. We are getting on well.

World Wide Business

This week we have been contacting a lot of companies to see if they would donate anything for our hamper. Some people didn’t get back to us so we have written some e-mails. We have been getting prepared for the Christmas stall and have been looking up ideas about what we could make.

We have finished our puzzle sheets and they will be going in the shops this weekend.

It’s sometimes hard to get everyone to work at what they need to do.

Charity Fundraisers

We decided that we are going to do stress balls for our business. Today we started making our stress balls. We thought that we would sell them and when they come to buy one they can decorate them themselves.

We have also decided that we are going to sell homemade wrapping paper. To do so, we’d get brown paper and finger paint on lights, penguins, reindeers etc.

We are quite an organised group. The problem we found today was that too many people were working on the same job and it got a bit cramped.

At the start we weren’t organised at all. We couldn’t even think of a name!
