Easter Activity with Early Years

Today 5 primary 6/7’s went to the music room with the Early Years to do some Easter crafts! Jules read them a story about sharing and it had bunniesĀ  for Easter. After that we helped them design their own Easter eggs using feathers, stars, tissue paper and santa stickers which they found hilarious (they weren’t meant to be in there)!

They all had great fun and so did we!

Stop and Watch!

We have been learning about time in Maths and this week we have been thinking about stopwatches.

We got into groups and worked together to think about fitness activities that we were going to time.

In groups of 2 or 3 we went to the gym hall and we used stopwatches (and ipads because not all of the stopwatches were working) and we timed each other doing our activities and recorded these on a table.

We came back to the classroom and had a look at our tables. We found out who had the fastest time, we compared the difference between the slowest and quickest time and finally we added up our own times for all of the activities.

It was important to know that there are 100 m/s in a second and 60 seconds in a minute when we were adding up the times.

It will be good to use this when we are older and doing sports, timing events or timing ourselves doing things.

Anne Frank and Diary Entries

We have been learning about Anne Frank’s life and have been looking at the diary she kept. Today we had a go at writing our own wartime diary entries. Before we did that Mrs Kerr gave us some extracts from a book. We read them and worked with a partner to highlight all of the vocabulary and descriptions we thought were very good.

We then thought of our own words to describe the war. This helped us with writing our entries. Some of us wrote from an evacuee point of view, or a solider, someone even wrote from the point of view of the prime minister.

Body Coach

Today we have done the Body Coach again. It is good because we have been doing it everyday to keep up our fitness. We have been learning that fitness helps to keep your concentration in class.

This was the last day because he only does it for one week at a time.Ā  We started doing it at the start of the week and did every day.Ā  Out of our school we (the P6/7)were the only ones to do it, Mrs Kerr joined in too.

Shetland Music Festival 2018

P6/7

Whiteness primary 6/7Ā  formed a class band and performed at the musicĀ Ā festival in Mareel.Ā  We sang a song called “House of Gold.” We played keyboards , xylophones , ukuleles, bass guitar, drum kit andĀ  the rest sang.

There were about 16 acts and everyone there put in lots of effort.

It felt absolutely amazing that we got gold even though we only had 3 weeks practice.

Behind the Shoes

This week we did a different sort of writing. Our teacher brought in different types of shoes like heels, sandals, pumps and football boots. She picked a few shoes and laid each pair on each table. We had to move around to each pair writing down what sort of person you think would wear them or what sort of personality they have even what they looked like. This activity was going to help us with our writing.

For writing we chose a pair of shoes and wrote a couple of paragraphs about the person we thought owned these shoes using the same things we did in the activity before but instead writing about their personality and what they looked like in sentences instead of words.

We had to use inference skills for this whole activity and enjoyed doing a different sort of style in writing. We all had different ideas about who the shoes would belong to.

VCOP

As it was such a lovely day today we decided to do our VCOP work outside. We closed our eyes and wrote down a simple sentence about what we could hear. We then added more interesting vocabulary, openers, connectives and punctuation to make our sentence even better. We then did the same with something we could see.
