Voice Over – Writing

Today our class has been doing a different piece of writing. Mrs Kerr played a short video clip with no story or talking but just sounds. In partners or on our own we came up with a voice over for the clip. We had to make sure that our voice over fitted in with what the clip did and that it made sense. We had to think about a lot of things during this lesson like using interesting vocabulary and how to make the voice over interesting for the listener! We all enjoyed doing this piece of writing and have learned a lot of new things doing it.

Buddying

The Primary 7’s have been super buddies so far this year. They have been responsible, caring and great fun! We have played with hoops in the multi court, shared stories together, played in the park and have been on a nature walk around the school grounds. The Primary 1’s used what they found to help them make up some imaginative stories. Come and have a look outside our classroom to read some of them.

Outside Activities

The next day we did some different activities with the primary 3/4 and 4/5/6 class these activity’s included relays, Mini den building, nest building and a scavenger hunt.

Both classes really enjoyed these activities and the time they got to spend time  out of class.

We think that this has made both classes more aware of the environment within the school grounds.

Outdoor Morning

As part of our project this term we have been busy planning outdoor activities for every class in the school. Our aim was to encourage the children to enjoy being in nature (as much as we have!). We had lots of activities which all used some natural resources. We all had a great time and used a range of skills to do this well.

“I thought it was quite educational in a fun way.”

“It was so much fun. We got to play lots of different types of games and I enjoyed working with the younger children.”

“I liked interacting with the younger ones and getting to know them better.”

“I enjoyed teaching them about the different kinds of nature. I think it was worthwhile because they saw things they had never seen before. They thought there was just grass on the ground but when we went on the trail they kept seeing loads more.”

Ephemeral Art

This afternoon we looked at the work of Andy Goldsworthy and then went outside to have a go at creating our own natural art work. The children worked really well together, had some creative ideas and produced some excellent art.

“When you look at them from different angles you see a whole new kind of texture.” Jos

“We thought the grass was really hard and kept breaking but we realised that it was softer in the middle so tied easier.” Jules

“We thought about pattern and colour.”

Euroquiz Final

This year four pupils, Caoilinn, Bobby, Holly and Zander went to the Euro-quiz heats in Shetland and won. On 13th of May they travelled to Edinburgh to take part in the finals. All the schools that won their heats went to the final which was held in the debating chamber of the Scottish parliament on the 14th.

There were four rounds and all the teams took part in three. The rounds were geography, language and understanding Europe. The last round was for the two leading teams. There were buzzers and microphones and the team who got the most points won the Euro-quiz 2018.

Whiteness was representing Shetland for the quiz and came 16th out of 31 teams that were in the finals. 472 teams took part in their local heats.

They had a great time going inside the parliament and seeing Edinburgh and have learned a lot more about Europe on this experience.

They would like to say thank you to all the support and encouragement we have had from teachers and parents and another thank you to the Scottish parliament and all the people who made Euro quiz 2018 happen!
