Voxter Trip by Bobby and Josh

P7 Voxter Trip

On Thursday morning, P7’s set off to the outdoor warehouse in Lerwick. Pete and John gave us wetsuits, gloves, shoes and helmets to put on.

Next, we went to Cunningsburgh, walked down to the sea, and started swimming in the sea and walking on the rocks. This is called coasteering. First, we came to a cliff that was about three metres high. We jumped off and started swimming again. After a little while, we came to another cliff, which was five metres high and we jumped off that. Then we walked back to the mini bus.

On the mini bus, we had our packed lunches and headed back to the outdoor warehouse.

We all got back on to the mini bus and drove to Voxter. When we got to Voxter, we got settled in and walked to Frankie’s fish and chip shop. Most of us had a fish supper. After Frankie’s we walked to the Hagrevourd play park. After the Hagrevourd play park, we walked back to Voxter and played the best game ever in the woods. We also played a bit of manhunt. After a long day, we went to bed.

The next morning we ate breakfast and made sandwiches and played manhunt in the walled garden while we were waiting for John. When John arrived, we put on our rucksacks and started climbing up a hill. When we reached the top, we had a snack. Then walked to a burn and started rock scrambling down. About halfway down, we had our packed lunch then carried on. When we reached the bottom we went back to school in time for the bus.

Generation Science Visit

Today Generation Science visited Whiteness Primary 6 and 7 with a workshop called Power From the People which was about electricity.

They explained how electrons around a circuit which is controlled by a battery or magnet which makes electricity. We had a generator which we had to clip the crocodile clips on to to charge hex bugs before we raced them. The same bug came first and second each time. To generate the electricity we had to spin around the handle. We discovered that thin wire and more magnets creates more electricity when you spin it faster. Total paid for our visit.

Magnus – Hexbugs are fun!

Jack – We were spinning our heads off.

Hendrik – The morning was fun – I especially enjoyed the hexbugs

Ava – Now I have spaegie!

Caoilinn – It was very interesting and clear

Finlay – If I am not a PE Teacher, I want to be an Engineer

Lewis – Magic Marvin was good at magic!

Budding P7’s

This week for budding we did Hama beads. We took our buddies to the classroom and created some Hama bead models. The P7’s thought doing Hama beads with the primary 1’s would be hard and all the beads would be on the floor by the end. But surprisingly they all managed really well and were all calm.

In our class this term we have been reading a book called, A Story Like the Wind by Gill Lewis. It is about refugee  on a small boat trying to stay alive. The main character is a boy called Rami, on the little boat he has a fiddle that tells lots of stories. The people on the boat loves all of the stories. It is illustrated by Jo Weaver. Out of ten I would rate it 8.

Making Lifeboats

We have been designing and making lifeboats. They had to be able to float, they had to be waterproof, at least hold 5 2 pence coins, it had to have a name, it had to be stable and have a sail.

We made them out of polystyrene, plastic cups, straws, tin foil, cocktail sticks, yogurt pots, pipe cleaners, felt, paper, tissue paper, lollipop sticks, balloons, and other materials. we were in groups of 2-4 and everyone worked well in their group.

paper planes experiment

This week we did an experiment with paper planes. We had to make them by watching a video. We made 4 different kinds then we got into pairs and then we made tables to record our results. We went into our gym hall and threw the planes. Then our partner would measure the distance. We threw them 3 times so we could make an average result.  We also went outside to the multi-court and attempted there 3 times there to see the difference. It was very fun and interesting.
