Learning about Auschwitz

Our project this term is War and Conflict. Mrs Burns came in to teach us about Auschwitz. She has been there so she was able to answer our questions.

She showed us a power point to give us the facts and she also told us a poem about Jews in World War 2. They were taken to concentration camps and told that they were going somewhere different for a while so that they would come quietly and calmly.

They were taken there as if they were prisoners but they were just people with different beliefs so Hitler took them as they had done something wrong. Their belongings were taken and sold for the war effort in Germany and instead they were given a pair of wooden clogs (if they didn’t fit, tough) a pair of woolly socks (if they were different sizes, tough)a dirty bowl (you could clean it with snow) a spoon (at least it doesn’t break) and a bit of bread (sorry this one’s a bit mouldy). Each person in Auschwitz was given a triangle of a different colour, each colour meant why you were in Auschwitz. these were how the guards knew who you were.

She brought in some of her things for the classroom. I really enjoyed it and I learned loads.
