{"id":611,"date":"2018-04-24T13:33:58","date_gmt":"2018-04-24T13:33:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/whalsayschoolweb\/?page_id=611"},"modified":"2025-06-13T11:03:54","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T11:03:54","slug":"leave-of-absence","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/whalsayschoolweb\/information-for-parents\/leave-of-absence\/","title":{"rendered":"Leave of Absence"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>Family Holidays &amp; Requests for Leave of Absence<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Circular No 5\/03 from the Scottish Executive Education Department, dated 26th June 2003, states that family holidays are to be classified as \u201cunauthorised absence\u201d from school unless under exceptional circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>Every effort should be made to avoid taking holidays during term time as this disrupts the child\u2019s formal education and reduces learning time.<\/p>\n<p>Please refer to the &#8216;Application for Leave of Absence of Pupil&#8217; form, which is available to download below.\u00a0 Paper copies can be collected from either School Office.<\/p>\n<p>These forms should be completed at least one week prior to the proposed absence, if possible.
