{"id":1987,"date":"2019-10-04T11:21:31","date_gmt":"2019-10-04T11:21:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/whalsayschoolweb\/?p=1987"},"modified":"2023-01-17T22:11:55","modified_gmt":"2023-01-17T22:11:55","slug":"dementia-friends-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/whalsayschoolarchiveposts\/2019\/10\/04\/dementia-friends-training\/","title":{"rendered":"Dementia Friends Training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1356 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/public\/whalsayschoolarchiveposts\/uploads\/sites\/3471\/2019\/01\/17211440\/Dementia_Friends_-_stock_image_landing.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"222\" height=\"143\" \/>Laura Whittal and Ann Williamson, from the Shetland Dementia Resource Centre, visited S1 and S4 pupils during their PSE lessons today.<\/p>\n<p>Pupils completed Dementia Friends training , which helps us to understand a bit more about dementia and the small things we can do to help people with the condition.<\/p>\n<p>Laura and Ann asked pupils to remember\u00a05 key messages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>dementia is not a natural part of ageing<\/li>\n<li>dementia is caused by brain disease<\/li>\n<li>dementia is not just about losing your memory<\/li>\n<li>it is possible to live well with dementia<\/li>\n<li>there is more to the person than the dementia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All Secondary pupils are now Dementia Friends.
