Laura Whittal and Ann Williamson, from the Shetland Dementia Resource Centre, visited S1 and S4 pupils during their PSE lessons today.

Pupils completed Dementia Friends training , which helps us to understand a bit more about dementia and the small things we can do to help people with the condition.

Laura and Ann asked pupils to remember 5 key messages:

• dementia is not a natural part of ageing
• dementia is caused by brain disease
• dementia is not just about losing your memory
• it is possible to live well with dementia
• there is more to the person than the dementia.

All Secondary pupils are now Dementia Friends. Thank you to Laura and Ann for giving their time to help us become more aware about a disease which affects so many people.
