Sea Skills at Whalsay School

Since August, in Wider Achievement, a group of S3 pupils have had the opportunity to do Sea Skills.  This was a suggestion that came from the Pupil Council last year.  After consulting Andy Sandison and John Arthur Poleson about possible content for the sessions and people in the community we could ask for help, we decided to run the sessions every fortnight between August and December.  During that time we have had volunteers in to pass on skills in knots, splicing, net-mending and compass work.  On Friday 17th January we finished off the activity with a visit to the Charisma.  We are very grateful to Andy Sandison for his input and John Arthur Poleson for co-ordinating the volunteers.  Thanks to John Arthur Poleson, Greg Anderson, Arthur Simpson, Stuart Kay, John William Johnson and Colin Leask for giving up their time to demonstrate their skills.  Thanks also to Magnus Polson and William Polson for showing us around the Charisma.
