On Tuesday 25th June, we held our Community Café at Fernlea.
Pupils had prepared a range of baked goods in Home Economics lessons, including sausage rolls, teabread and chocolate chip traybake.
Laura Whittal, from Alzheimers Shetland, came to help S3 and S4 pupils and Magnus Williamson kept us all entertained with a medley of fiddle tunes.
We had a busy afternoon and thanks to very generous donations, we raised £222.65 for the Fernlea Hansel Fund.
One of the aims of our café is to donate any profit to local organisations or charities which help our community. This year we have donated £497.65 to Fernlea Hansel Fund, £414.61 to the BBC Children in Need Appeal – from our Fair and Café in November – and £145.00 to Dogs Against Drugs.
The café can only succeed with a lot of hard work from pupils and Teacher helpers, the good will of other Teachers who release pupils from classes, the Staff at Fernlea, along with support from Parents and the wider community who give their time (and money!) so generously.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed in any way this year. The next café is planned for Thursday 26th September – save the date!
