Last month we celebrated Outdoor Classroom Day in the Early Years and Primary which is a global campaign to celebrate and inspire outdoor learning and play. The weather wasn’t too favourable first thing with a rainy forecast but the teachers and pupils embraced the activities that were planned and had a fun, constructive morning. In the afternoon the sun shone through and it came a beautiful day for the children to enjoy the rest of the planned activities and learn key life skills such as resilience, teamwork and creativity.
Throughout the day we had: P4-7 sports games; school gardening; visits to the Ayre o’ Breiwick, Skaw, Brough Beach, Hamister Beach and the Houll Loch; Bikeability; Wild Garden treasure hunt and play in the Early Year’s garden. The children gave positive feedback following the outdoor day and this is an area we hope to build on next session. Thank you to all the teachers for their planning and all staff and parent helpers who accompanied the off-site activities.
