On Thursday 21st February, we held a Nursery and Primary Play Day to celebrate a belated Global Play Day which is held on the 6th February each year. Pupils were allowed to bring in toys and games from home and the school provided all the usual school games as well as soft play, the parachute, skipping ropes, wooden loose parts outside and a large number of cardboard boxes. The nursery came down to join in the fun and primary pupils got to go up and enjoy the nursery garden. And not wanting to miss out on the fun, pupils in S2 got to play games for a period too.
The one thing that surprised the staff the most was how quiet the school was. Feedback from pupils was very positive with comments such as,
‘Everyone got on and loved playing. It was so much fun playing board games, with toys and other classes.’
‘We got to interact with each other. We had no work, we just played.’
One pupil also suggested to make play day even better ‘by having everybody in Whalsay coming’. Imagine that!
Make sure you have a look at out 6 Benefits of Play display the next time you are in school. Here are some photos from Play Day.
