Today we did a science experiment at school. P1, P3/4 and P4/5 had to put magic powder on their hands. The magic powder represented germs. We washed our hands. We had to sing Happy Birthday because it was the right amount of time.
So there was a purple germ scanner when we came back in the classroom. The germ scanner scanned our hands. If we had the magic powder still on our hands they were not clean. We went back to the bathroom again, until everyone had clean hands. At the end we took a photo.
The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention explains how you wash your hands:
- Wet your hands with clean, warm running water, turn off the tap, and apply soap.
- Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Be sure to lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
- Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
- Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
- Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
