On Tuesday 1st of May David Hughson and Miss Irvine took us to the Sullom Voe Terminal to have a look around. We took the minibus out on the 9.15 ferry and drove up. When we got there a man came out and searched the bus for weapons, phones, matches and lighters.
We were then allowed into the terminal. When we were in we drove around the terminal and David explained what everything did as we drove by it. First we saw 2 of the 6 pipelines that come into the terminal, the Brent and the Ninian. We then saw the surge tanks which are for emergencies. Then we saw where some gas and impurities are separated from the oil. Finally we saw the storage tanks, the Clare pipeline and a tanker.
This was part of a project learning about career opportunities. We would like to thank David for his time coming in to speak to us in our SE lesson and for organising the trip, and the Parent Council for funding our transport so we could go and see around the site.
