Young Sports Ambassadors

On Friday 23rd March, as part of Whalsay School’s Sport Relief effort, the Young Sports Ambassadors in S3 organised two events for Primary pupils.  The first was aimed at P1-3 pupils.  Competing in their houses (Maalie, Shalder and Tirrick) the pupils tacked a range of obstacle relays.  After over an hour of excitement, fun and close races, Shalder emerged as the victorious team.  The second event was another Inter-house competition for P4-7 pupils in Dodgeball.  The S3 pupils had given careful thought to the composition of the teams with a good range of younger and older pupils in 3 teams for each house.  The competition ran like clockwork with 2/3 of the pupils on court at any given time.  At the end of the session it was Tirrick who came out on top with their 3 teams all finishing in the top 3.  The S3 pupils did a fantastic job organising the events.  Four of the pupils are also doing the Sports Leadership Course as part of the Vocational Pathways programme.  This means that every other Friday they are out of school to work for this award.  Course tutor Danny Peterson was also up on Friday to support the pupils and offer them feedback on their efforts.
