Subtraction

We are working on our addition and subtraction skills during numeracy this term. We are reminding ourselves of our number bonds, and revising our mental maths strategies. In subtraction, the P4s are will be working on 3 digit sums with exchange, and the P3s will be working on perfecting taking away 2 digit numbers without exchange.

We like to help, support and play games with each other to help our learning.

Here we are playing dice games, 4-in-a-row, bingo and snakes and ladders ALL about subtraction!

Traditional Dancing

We were really lucky to have Maria Leask coming into school on Thursday to learn the children some traditional dances.

P3/4 took part in the Grand March, The Grand Old Duke of York and a Circassian Circle.

The children took part in all these dances with gusto and chose their favourite,  The Grand Old Duke of York, to do for a second time.

The photographs were quite blurry, but I managed to capture some big smiles!

2D Shape Stations

One aspect of our maths this term is 2D shape. Today the children worked around different work stations to explore polygons. Their interest was piqued and through further enquiry some children found out that there are names for polygons far beyond our initial learning intention, there favourites being a myriagon with 10, 000 sides and a Megagon with 1, 000, 000 sides!

Spooky Science

Today P34 were investigating how we could use static electricity to make our ghosts dance.

We rubbed balloons and our hair to charge them and watched how the static electricity attracted the ghosts towards the balloon like magnet.

P34 also used pastels to create pumpkin pictures and used straws and paper to make optical illusion spinners.

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory

September 15, 2023 by Miss Nairn

We have been listening to ‘Charlie and The Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl as part of our book study topic this term. We love hearing about the characters and finding out what they have been up to. We have written about each character making fact files and wanted posters. We have been using lots of descriptive language.

As part of our topic we have made a huge display in the corridor outside our classroom. Our display includes four rooms from Willy Wonka’s factory: The Chocolate Room, The Inventing Room, The Nut Room and Wonka Vision Room. We made ourselves into Oompah Loompahs too.

Have a look at our hard work:

Free Write Friday

Free Write Friday comes from Cressida Cowell’s Free Writing Friday campaign which aims to inspire more children to write for pleasure.

Every Friday we are given some time to write in our own special jotters. What makes this notebook special is that NO ONE is allowed to correct it. Spelling and grammar and handwriting doesn’t matter in this book. What matters is that it’s a place for ideas and for FUN. We can write stories, or notes,  exciting facts , labelled drawings, or comic strips. We can even write ideas for films or little pictures of characters. We can write about books we’ve read or films that we’ve watched. (from Cressida Cowell’s Free Write Friday website)

Here we are writing in our jotters:
