Dynamic Earth Visit

Today we had a visit from Dynamic Earth with their planetarium. It was very exciting and everyone enjoyed our travel trough space!

The children got to see Earth from millions of miles away and explored various planets and moons in our galaxy and beyond.

“It was so exciting!” DP

“It was so cool and realistic.” RG

“It felt like you were actually in space!” JW

“It felt like you were moving!” WM

“I learned stuff, like other planets have more than one moon.” WS

Thankyou to Dynamic Earth for their excellent visit, from all in P3/4.

Position and Movement

For numeracy this term we have been looking at position and movement. We worked with compasses to find North, South, East and West. We have also looked at grid references and coordinates.

Today we used BeeBots to practise giving directions. The BeeBot is a programmable floor robot who follows commands such as forwards, backwards, left turn and right turn. We did lots of different activities using BeeBots. We had to programme them to find a place on a map, follow instructions to draw a 2D shape, and we drew our own maps with grids to allow Beebot to travel through a ‘magical island’ or ‘Ancient Egypt’.

Here we are hard at work:

Ancient Egypt

Our topic for this term is all about Ancient Egypt.

We have been finding out about the pharaohs and how they lived. We know that they were the rulers of Ancient Egypt and that they were believed to be half human half god. Pharaohs  made laws, controlled the land and its resources, and maintained an army. Advisors and other officials helped pharaohs to govern. Pharaohs were also religious leaders. One of the best-known pharaohs is Tutankhamun who ruled in the 1300s bce, from about age 8 until he died 10 years later. Archaeologists found his tomb in 1922.

We decided to see what we would look like as pharaohs.

Children in Need

Children in Need is always part of our school calendar and today P34 were learning about how the money they raise will go to good causes in Shetland and beyond.

Our discussion led on to how lucky we are to have things in our lives that we are grateful for.  P34 decided they were all thankful for a wide range of things including the freedom to play outside, families, friends, health and homes that kept them safe.
