Primary 7 are Playground Leaders at Whalsay School. They completed training with Danny Peterson during Primary 6 and now organise a number of activities for younger classes at playtime.
The benefits and duties
- Help the peerie bairns know the older ones and who to ask for help
- Encourage bairns to join in and give them support
- Make sure that games are fair
- Try and make sure none of the peerie bairns are lonely or left out
- Help make new friendships between older and younger pupils
- Learn bairns new games to play
- Taking responsibility for the Huff and Puff cupboard
- Setting a good example by caring for others and being responsiblePlayground leaders work in groups in a rota for a week and they wear a name badge so you know who they are.
Playground Leaders help the bairns by
- Showing them how to open playpieces
- Tying shoelaces, doing up jackets etc
- Sorting out playground disagreements fairly
- Encouraging shy bairns to join in or keep them company
- Telling staff when there are problems
Playground Leaders are working hard to help all the bairns be aware of school Values by
- encouraging everyone to be responsible, creative and healthy
- making sure everyone feels like they belong and enjoys being at school
