Happy Holidays!

Hello Everyone,

I have really enjoyed meeting you all again these last couple of weeks for the Stay and Play sessions. I am looking forward to being your teacher next year and hope we can create lots of new memories during your time in P1.

I will be archiving this blog after the summer to create a new blog for P1/2.

Enjoy the summer, stay safe, have fun and I will see you all when we return!

Daily Routine

Although when we go back to school things may be a little different; normally, we usually follow the same daily routine. Helping to develop these routines enables children to feel safe and secure in our setting.

When the bell rings you line up at the pegs. Mrs Irvine will come and meet you and take you into the class. If you have a snack or a toy, these go into your own tray to keep safe for later. You put your blue bag in the box and Mrs Irvine or Mrs Hutchison will check your Home School Diary.

You post your name onto the “I am here” board and then everyone takes a Smart Start tray. These are activities that allow each child to work independently on an activity (Literacy, Numeracy, Fine Motor and STEM) until everyone is settled in to class. This time allows me to talk to parents, if needed and check the diaries.

Then we have together time on the mat and discuss what will happen that day. We go over the visual timetable and share any news or exciting events.

From then until playtime there is a mixture of teacher led, teacher initiated play activities and free play. This will take us up to break, with similar activities until lunchtime.

We wash our hands and get ready to go to the canteen for lunch.

In the afternoon we focus on our topic work and have a range of activities for children to take part in. There are usually specialist times throughout the week and we have timetabled use of the Computer Suite, Library and Canteen. We go outside everyday for the daily mile and also for outdoor learning, so please make sure your child has appropriate clothing with them daily.

At the moment I am not sure what will happen in August, however this will give you and your child an idea of what would normally happen and initiate positive conversations about coming to school. We will keep you updated as we know more.

The Places You’ll Go…

I thought you might like to look at some photos to help you remember the classroom you visited and spaces you will use.

Here is the P1/2 classroom, your classroom will look a bit different when we get back to school. Talk to your parents and tell them if you can remember anything about it and the visits you had there?

What else can you remember about visiting the classroom?

These are the toilets. In the class we have a signal that shows me you need to go. Can you remember? We make a ‘t’ for toilet with our hands.

I will add more to this post over the coming weeks.
