Debi came to visit Primary 1, 2 and 3 on Friday 25th of November as part of Word Play Week.

Dhilan – Debi was interested in penguins. She made a story about a little penguin.

Ruby – There was dragons in the story too.

Cyrus – The dragon saw a penguin egg and took care of it.

Alfie – The baby penguin felt left out around the dragons because he was different to the dragons.

Evie – Then the volcano started to get firey.

Ollie – He telt the other dragons to fly away and then he slid down the volcano on his tummy.

Jenny – The penguin was a Mam at the end of the book and she was reading the story to her baby penguin.

Erland – We drawed a penguin. We had to put one ‘egg’ sideways and another ‘egg’ shape up and down.

Mason – Then we did the wings and feet and eyes and beak.

Kiana – I liked doing the penguin pictures. They looked cute!

Ruby, Lucy, Ashleigh and Millie came to talk to us this morning to tell us about how we can stay safe on the roads.

Ruby – Always wear bright clothes when it’s dark.

Jenny – Wear bright clothes so the cars can see where you are.

Lexie – Wear helmets when you are on your bike in case you fall off.

Erland – Always hold hands when you are going across the road.

Casey – On Tuesday we went to the Museum in town to find out about the Viking Vik books.

Ruby – A man called Shoo told us a story.

Jenny – Shoo was the author.

Evie – Shoo was the illustrator too.

Aimee – The story was about Vik the Viking and his brother and sister called Volf and Freya.

Cyrus – The boys were trying to fight to find out who was the boss and the best.

Alfie – They had a eating competition.  The sister put eel jelly, worms and frog spawn in bowls and they had to eat all of it to see who was the winner.  Volf cheated!

Lexie – The stuff made Vik sick and he spewed!  Volf put the food in a bag and he put it up his top.

Ollie – Because Volf cheated, Vik was the winner!

Cian – After the story we drew pictures of Vik.  Shoo drew the picture and we copied it bit by bit.

Dhilan – I think this morning was good because we went to the Museum and I really liked the story.

Kiana – I saw my cousin there and it was a fun trip!

Mason – I want to hear some more Viking Vik books.

 

 

Today we were continuing to practise our adding skills up to 20.

Robbie – There were 2 teams.  You had to throw the bean bags in the hoops.  The teams had 10 bean bags.

Alfie – We counted how much bean bags we got in the hoops.

Casey – We added the bean bags together from the red and green hoop.  We used the number lines to count.

Erland – We counted from the big number and added on the smaller number.

Today we were finding out why spiders don’t get stuck in their own webs.

Jared – We needed sticky selotape, some pretend spiders and some oil.

Jenny – We made a web. We used sticky selotape with the sticky side on the top.

Ollie – We pretended our fingers were bugs.  We tried to walk on the selotape.  We got stuck!

Erland – Then we pretended to be spiders. We dipped our fingers in oil. We put our fingers on the selotape and it was slippery and we didn’t get stuck!

The sciencey bit…

Cyrus – Bugs and flies get stuck because the web is sticky.

Evie – Spiders don’t get stuck because they make a oil on their body so they can move about.

They also had a go at creating their own rhymes 😊

On Tuesday we had a visit from Elaine and Richard.  They came to show us one of the Council’s new gritters.

Erland – The yellow box in the cab controls the spinner at the back of the truck.  They turn the flashing lights on to warn people they are putting grit on the road.

Alfie – The yellow box also controls the cameras at the back to see the grit to see if it is spreading out on the road.

Jared – The grit comes out of the spinner on to the road.

Cian – There was 3 boxes. There was salt in one, grit in the one next to it and the last one was salt and grit mixture.

Ruby – The salt melts the ice on the road.

Jenny – You need grit because cars don’t want to slip so it helps the wheels grip the road.

 

 

As part of World Nursery Rhyme Week 7th – 11th November, Primary 1/2 will be learning a new rhyme each day, coming up with accompanying actions and participating in group activities, crafts and experiments linked to the rhyme.

Here is ‘Doctor Foster’!

Primary 1/2 have been learning about rhyme in their language work.

Jenny – Rhyming words sound the same at the end, like cat and bat and hat.

 

Theodore is my bunny.  I got him in the holidays from a house in Tingwall.

He normally eats stuff like peppers, cucumbers, melon, carrots, broccoli and rabbit food.

He stays at the top on my passage at home in a pink cage.

We sometimes put him on a purple lead and he goes crazy with it on!  He likes to run up and down the passage like really fast!

He makes me rally happy because he is jumpy and he licks my hand to show he likes me.  Sometimes he bites me but it doesn’t hurt because he has tiny teeth.
