Big Book Quiz!

We’re currently at the new Anderson High School competing in the Big Book Quiz. It’s a particularly tricky quiz!

WW2 Timeline

We’ve had a great start to the new school year and we’re really looking forward starting our new topic – WW2.

Today, we’ve been using skimming and scanning as we read books to find key dates for our WW2 timeline. This is helping us to develop our sense of chronology, as well as introducing us to key data and vocabulary we’ll be exploring in this topic.

Euroquiz Day!

Good morning! We had a wonderful day in Edinburgh yesterday…Camera Obscura was amazing! Photos to follow 📸

We’ve all had a good sleep and we’ve just enjoyed a hearty breakfast. Unfortunately, the weather is not as nice today as it was yesterday…Miss Saunders won’t get to wear her sunnies. 😎😭🌧

Soon, we’ll be heading off up to Princes St, before going to parliament. We’ll do our best to keep the blog up to date.

Ciao for now 🖐🏻

Finally in Edinburgh!

We have all made it safely the hostel and some of us are extremely hungry. We’re having a light bite before we head out to enjoy the sights of Edinburgh.

We’ve arrived!

Ruby and I have arrived at the youth hostel in Edinburgh. We’re enjoying a cuppa as we wait for the other 4 to arrive….they are on the tram from the airport as we speak! We had a beautiful train journey down from Aberdeen and the sun is shining in Edinburgh.

😎

Graeme Patterson’s Visit

Today, a special visitor called Graeme Patterson came to join us for an assembly. He told us all about Corrie Ten Boom, a very special girl who risked everything to help Jewish people in WW2.

It was a very thought provoking assembly.

Da Voar Redd Up

On Friday, 21st April, we took part in the Voar Redd Up. Half the class went north with Mrs Morrison along the Tingwall road and the other half went south with Miss Saunders, We had bags, gloves and Hi-Vis vests. We found a lot of rubbish but definitely not as much as last year. The weather was horrifically bad…there was hail and it was rainy, windy and very cold. However, we got our jackets on and got on with our tasks. The sun eventually came out.

Chinese Calligraphy

This morning  in Mandarin, we were learning how to write Chinese calligraphy. We had special brushes and water and paper that was magic. When you painted on the paper with water, it dissappeared!

Ella says:

“It was really fun and we were learning how to write the symbol for the number 1.”

Maisie says:

“It was good to learn new skills.”

French Fridays

This afternoon, we took our French games outside into the fresh air. We were playing some speaking games using the language about the body that we have been learning. This was a fun way to help us get more confident with speaking French .

Shetland Youth Wind Band Concert

Today, we were lucky enough to get to go to Scalloway Junior High School for a concert by the Shetland Youth Wind Band. It was an amazing concert, the band played so many fun and funky songs!

Our classmates Millie, Kanchana and Rebekah joined the wind band for one of their pieces. We were super proud of them…well done girls.

Have a great weekend everyone.
