Evan on the moon

Me, Evan and Keisha made an animation about Evan going to the moon and me and Keisha were on the radio. When Evan puts the Tingwall primary school flag on the moon an alien takes him back to Earth.

2 planets animation

Me, David and Brandon made this animation called Two Planets. We used an app called ZU3D to make the animation. It was quite a lot of work because first we had to make the storyboard and script. Then we had to make the backgrounds and characters and props. Once we had done all that we got to start filming. It took ages to film because we had to take a photo, move the characters a tiny bit and take another photo. We had to take about 200 frames. It was a lot of work but I really enjoyed doing it.

Stupid spacemen animation

We had to use our topic (space) to create an animation which I did whith Anya and Ashleigh.

Before we could make our animation we had to do a lot of work first. We looked at animations and what went into making them. Then we got into groups and thought of an idea of what we could do for our animation. We were asked to make a short animation about space and told there had to be at least 3 facts in it. We had to think about the plot, setting, characters, props and the script before making anything. Once we had all of that we got to start making the background, characters and props which was fun. Miss Nicholson showed us the app ZU3D on the Ipad, this is how we filmed our animation. It took a lot of frames to make our animation as we had to make sure there were enough images for our speech. We were the first group to finish our animation.

Cooperative learning with P6/7

We have been working with P6/7 as part of our topic, Space. Their topic is space too.  On Wednesday the 3rd we started working with them. All the P6/7s came in to our classroom and we got put into groups. Then Miss Morrison explained what we were going to do. Each of the  groups had to make a poster about a planet. It had to be very colourful and have lots of information. One person from each group had to pick an envelope and inside it would tell  us which planet we were going to be researching. My group did the Sun. We each had a different role. There was 2 Head Researchers, 1 Head Illustrator and  1 Head Writer. We had to look in books for information first then after about 20 minutes we were allowed to look on computers. We didn’t get much done on the actual poster but it was good because we got together again on Monday and worked on our posters. Today before lunch P6/7 came through because we were going to show our posters to the class. We were allowed 5 minutes in our groups to decide who was going to present the poster.  My group The Sun went first. Our poster looked really good. After that, all the other groups went. All the posters looked really good! I really enjoyed working with P6/7.

Animation

Today Miss Nicholson asked us what we knew about animation, we got to watch an animation on youtube and write down everything they had to think about when making this animation. We came up with lots of ideas. She then showed us a few animations that other children in a different school had made. They were really good. We made a list of things you would have to think about if making an animation then Miss Nicholson told us we are going to be making our own animations about space!

We are very excited about this!!

Roald Dahl Virtually Live

We took part in Roald Dahl’s Virtually Live programme this afternoon. Primary 6 and 7 came through to our classroom to watch it with us. We cleared the tables away when Miss Nicholson got it up on the whiteboard, we listened to part of ‘The Twits’ when we were waiting for the live programme to start. We counted down from 10 when the numbers came up on the whiteboard. We learned the different steps as to how the book is made, we listened to the man who was Roald Dahl’s official biographer answer questions about Roald Dahl and we learned how to draw Mr Twit. Here is a few of our quick sketches:

Myths and Legends around the world

Today we got into groups of 3 and 4 to begin researching different myths and legends around the world. We are gong to present our findings to the rest of the class next week. Each group was given a different country to look at and we have to find at least 3 different myths/legends that belong to that country. We decided in our groups how we were going to present our findings, most of the groups decided to make Power-points but there are a few posters being made. We have been looking through books and searching the internet to find our information. We discussed copyright and now know how to narrow our search on Google images to know which photos we can use and which ones we cannot.

Tingwall Times

We have been looking at newspapers and the features of a newspaper during literacy. We learned about:

  • Headlines,
  • Orientation,
  • Pictures and captions
  • The main text – has paragraphs, written in past tense and in columns
  • Reorientation

After spending time looking through newspapers and identifying the different features we planned our own newspaper reports. First we had to agree on a name for our newspaper! We came up with lots of ideas to begin with, before having a secret vote to decide on one. We all closed our eyes and put our hand up for which name we wanted. Tingwall Times was the winner!

Our report was about a Mythological creature being spotted in Tingwall/Shetland, we got to choose which creature we wanted to write about. Then after we had written our plan Miss Nicholson showed us how to use Microsoft Word to write a newspaper, using columns, adding a heading, making the font bold and adding a box for our picture and caption. Half the class used the laptops to type their reports whilst the other half wrote them on paper. We are creating a front cover for our Tingwall Times just now.
